The Addams Family Pinball - $8500 - St.Albert
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-toys-games/s...ll/1278109709?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

This just popped up. Not sure how big or small St.Albert is, but I can't imagine too many pinball collectors there. In the small case this is the same dude I tried to buy his TAF a while ago from, please be careful and check for the signature "crack" in the back of the playfield.

Here's the link to the "Scammer" post I made after communicating with him:

I sent him a message and he said someone had offered him 1800 and they sent a deposit of 1000 on it. I told him it was worth way more and he told me to send a deposit on it and he would take down the ad.

This is the new scam style. Try to play it cool and say things like ya come see it, bring cash.. Then turn around and say stuff like oh have guy coming, if u want it send deposit.. this is the new move.
If you really wanted to test get a guy to take a pic of the pinball with your name # number written on piece of paper under the glass.. That'll shut them up quick fast.

This is the same loser that had the Monopoly for $2000. He uses text voice, so that he can create a local number and text you back etc. Call the # gives you a voicemail for the service.. instantly you know it's a scam. Was selling U2 tickets that week too when he had the Monopoly posted.

Someone may have mentioned this one but everything almost appears ok until you start looking at the pictures which many are actually pulled from IPDB: http://ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=476&picno=30706

Looks like his Mr & Mrs PAC is also a dud, stolen images once again. Scam report sent...

I'm not sure these are a scam... stolen pics maybe but the write up and cross posting reminds me more of a Mark Utley posting... I'd love the Centaur and PF @ $4K but just typing that makes me need to shake my head and agree with you. Blinded by the chase! Here I am ready to sell my Virtual Pin to raise cash for it! Someone is asking $7K for a Virtual Pin on kijiji right now! That has to be a new high locally.

Yeah, $5000.00 would be a good price if they were both in great shape. But then, who in the hell would want or need two of them if they were both in great shape to begin with.

Hey, I had two of them up until last year. And I still have two Black Knights. And I have two Gottlieb Hi Diver woodrails as well. lol! (It's a crazy addiction.)

It totally IS Mark Uttley. And it is a scam. Alas, a friend got bitten by this one. *sigh*

A lesson: Don't let your pursuit of a much-wanted title blind you to the warning signs of a rip-off..

Just to follow up on what happened with Mark Uttley's Centaur advertised on kijiji:

My friend didn't detect that the kijiji ad was using IPDB.org pictures, but was in phone communication with the seller and got a good enough vibe off of the guy (he actually does know about pinballs, can talk knowledgeably about them, and described the condition of the Centaur in detail) that he ended up sending a substantial deposit by direct bank-transfer. At which point the seller stopped answering the phone. Unbeknownst to the seller, my friend had Mark Uttley's home number and business address (long story), so he drove 6 hours to Hamilton to confront him, but the man was either laying low or out of town so no joy.

Luckily, a board-member who will remain un-named was also pursing this game, and is local to the game. As is typical of Mr. Uttley, a local, cash-and-carry sale usually works out as he actually does have the games he is advertising (he seems to like to defraud remote buyers via deposits and a careful use of burner-phones and text-based communication). Our knight-in-shining-armour offered to go to Mark's place along with my friend. My friend drove down again, and upon being confronted by the two "buyers", Mr. Uttley sold the Centaur to my friend, honouring the deposit, and included the promised replacement playfield (along with a bonus set of new plastics). The game is in acceptable condition all-round, and the price was fair considering the extras that were included.

A special shout-out to the board-member who stepped forward to help out my friend, sticking out his neck for a fellow pinball collector. As my friend drove down without his truck (not expecting a "successful" resolution), the game ended up staying with the benefactor. My friend was able to do some meatball-surgery repairs on the game (which was initially DOA), and got it working pretty well, so as a bonus the benefactor has the use of Centaur for a week or too.

All-in-all, a much better than expected resolution to a typical Mark Uttley deal. Thanks again to the anonymous benefactor! Just goes to show that there are some really great people in this hobby! Stay safe when dealing with remote buys, and be aware that there are sharks swimming around in the pool (as if anyone who has ever monitored kijiji doesn't know that!).

That's exactly the MO that is well advertised for Stephen Anderson aka Mark Uttley and he's been documented by the collector community for more than a decade for the very same type of fraud before.

He is a big guy and "talks the talk", is pinball knowledgeable, affable, and is a very convincing con artist. I personally believe that he hangs or has hung with a younger crowd that will assist him in other forms of crime (but I have no direct evidence except circumstantial and never pursed a police complaint).

He is very likely reading all this and laughing. Most people dealing with him contribute their story and his current whereabouts details to be added here for posterity:

Required Bedtime Reading (he's at the very TOP of the list): https://user.xmission.com/~daina/blacklist.html#StephenAnderson

He's not the only Canadian pinball collector / scam artist on that list either: http://calgary.ctvnews.ca/man-faces-charges-in-internet-scam-1.717264#

Pinball's always been a rather "dirty" business given it's roots in easy cash coin-op and gambling related activity (it was developed as a gambling alternative to slot machines when they were banned from general consumption in the 1930's).
