I'll go check it out, why not? Just a subway ride away for me.

the discussion on the topl list was kind of negative, but I think it's just because they are using the pinball machines as a promotional device for their play, and not because they love pinball and want to promote pinball.

Yeah, I wouldn't volunteer to give my machines for this purpose either, where I might consider loaning my machines for an expo type thing that is more to promote pinball itself, but either way it's pinball being talked about so it's a good thing overall.

My friend owned the Tommy machine they are using which was previously owned and brought back to life by Dave Astill. I might see if I can take the afternoon off on the 16th or maybe even the day to check this out. I think anything sort of exposure to bring pinball to the forefront is good.

from the topl discussion, looks like none of the local collectors wanted anything to do with this, because they were looking for free machines with nothing in return except a headache.

I wonder how many starburst can possibly pull together.... I'm thinking they'll fall far short of their 100 goal, and it will be a bunch of xmen :).

If it works, great-it's not like any of us have a stake in whether this succeeds or not. It sucks that they were trying to get people to donate machines with nothing in return, but all you need to do is say no, and things are fine. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with though-not sure if I'll head down there (getting downtown is a pain in the ass), but we'll see what happens day of).

Well the lobby was full of sea-doos, dune buggies, and four-wheelers today.
There's a lot of guys who can afford a pin working down there.
I'll bet they drum-up a few sales from the event.

If playdium is doing it, I'm sure that's part of the plan. I was just about to say that they should pull the WOZ over for the event, but while that may sell a couple of those, would it be at the expense of selling some of the Stern LEs they have? Why get this one when I can get the one with the LCD? If they have X-Men and Transformers LEs left, I'll bet they could move at least one of each with the crowd that's through FCP (and may have no clue that pinball still exists).

Starburst still have Xmens and TF? those are gonna be tough to unload. Borg stated he was going to push for an update on XM. Sounds like a death knell to me especially if metallica is a hit.

One more sleep!
: )

Hope they get a good number of machines down there.
I've seen a few people standing around, gawking at the Rolling Stones pin that's been on display for the past week or so (turned off).

It'll be interesting to see how much time/respect the suits give pinball.

mwong just posted a few pics in another thread, holy crap! There's a LOT of new Metallica's there! I know where all the NEW games came from (Starburst), but who supplied all the old ones?

PS... holding this event for a single day, on a work day, between the hours of 9am - 6pm is probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

Was just there, ran into Jack from TOPL there too! The morning crowd was slowly filling up. MET Pro was fun.

Here's a few more pics of the lineup:

WOW! an MM on location!
Don't see that every day

Probably the same one that was at the Pinball Cafe when it was on Roncesvalles Ave in Parkdale. There is one for sale right now for $13,500 on kijiji if you another one for your main floor ;)

Just got back from a very quick visit .. 100 machines prob 50% are a mix of Metalicca/Avengers but the rest are a good mix there is a MM and a bunch of williams machines ... 75-80% of the machines are being played .. media has been there all day so far .. I'd say they've done a good job .. don't know if it will sell any pins but it got the play into the spotlight and pinball as well.

Only played one game on Metalicca 21 Million and the sparky multi-ball .. played okay but I need way more time to have a real opinion (the music cannot be heard in that environment and that is obviously important to the game.

Also ran into 3 topl'ers Mike,Tim and John .. good to see topl represent
