Update - 2024-02-17
***********************

If you are reading this for the first time, there's plenty of info in this thread on the PIN2DMD displays that I sell.

I just wanted to provide an update as I now have large SEGA displays back in stock.

For a standard display or the ones used in the DE games with the smaller display, the price is $290 per display. I have to determine a price for the large SEGA displays but they should be around $400 each. This includes the memory card and the proper wiring harness, if required. Colour files for specific games are not included, but I can get them for you or you can contact the author directly and make your own arrangements. I can assist here when necessary but it's best that you get them so you can receive updates as they are released.

Shipping in Canada is around $25 give or take a few dollars. I can give you a quote based on your mailing address.

I've set up a website with a bit more info that you might want to have a look at - www.cdnpin2dmd.ca

As always, feel free to get in touch with me here or at cdnpin2dmd@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Dino Z.

Folks,

On the heels of Menace's post for large format panels, I am offering up replacement standard size colour LED DMD panels (PIN2DMD versions) for sale. I've already ordered/built quite a few of these. Selling price is $250. Shipping is available across the country and is generally around $20-25. If you look at online retailers or Player 1 for replacement panels you are looking at upwards of $350 in most cases for monochrome displays.

I can now also offer up the smaller panels for DE games such as Hook, Checkpoint, TMNT, Star Trek and Batman.

These panels have come out of the virtual pinball scene but can also be used for replacing DMDs in real machines. They provide the option of full colour along with 8 different monochrome settings. They will work in just about any make of machine. There is an active group of individuals that are colourizing certain games and for a small donation, or in some cases for free, they will provide you with the necessary files that can be loaded onto the board via an SD Card and give you full colour (similar to what ColorDMD sells for twice the price!).

Here is a link to photos and videos of the displays in action.

Here is a link to a site that has some instructions on installation and setup (this is a work in progress, feel free to make suggestions!):

https://sites.google.com/view/pin2dmd/

I'm doing my best to build a list of games available. Check here:

https://sites.google.com/view/pin2dmd/colour-files

This is the most active place for work in progress:

Of course you can also check here for what is downloadable:

http://vpuniverse.com/forums/files/category/102-pin2dmd-colorizations-real-pinball/

***** Update for Metallica owners - I have figured out what needs to be done to make it work on your games. A bit more complicated but it can be done and looks pretty good! Sorry about the one handed video and background noise!

If you would like additional information or have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Thanks,

Dino Z.

I purchased one of these displays from Dino and will be trying some of these color files out in some of my real pins. This is a nice and much cheaper alternative to ColorDMD at almost 1/3 of the cost!

If you own any of these real pins you can load these FREE full color files on an SD card

Rotate them through in what fashion? To get the colourization to work on a real game, you have to install a couple of files on the SD card that are specific to the machine. For a vpin the process is a bit different.
I was thinking of a raspberry Pi running VP and then have the DMD showcase the games. Sorta of like the DMD clock

What are the installation steps? This might be great for my Getaway

The board itself has mounting holes that line up with original DMDs so that is straight forward. There is a flat ribbon cable that needs to be plugged into the board. You then need to get power to the board in 1 of 2 ways. If you crank the brightness on these displays they draw a lot of current and it is recommended that you power them with a small external power supply. The other option is to take power off one of the boards in the backbox. Depending on the game, I can build you a jumper harness to plug into both ends.

IMG_20191006_2124023.jpg

I have my display running at 20% brightness and it is more than enough so power from the backbox is not an issue. This is what ColorDMD does as well.

For games that are colourized, you need to copy a couple of files onto an SD card and insert it into the back of the board. For non-colourized games, there are a couple of buttons on the back of the board that will put it into diagnostics mode and allow you to change the settings to either monochrome or colour mode. I believe there may be a way to load additional palettes as well but I haven't quite gotten that far. You can see from the videos that I posted of Judge Dredd some of the options you have for a non-colourized game.

Once Mike gets around to testing, I'm sure he will post his results.

Here is a video of a pin2dmd display installed in a real Shadow pinball machine running a coloured rom pallette

It's still a work in progress and I just sent the author 15 euros ~ $27cdn for the file as well as future updates. Please don't ask me to email you the files and I can put you in touch with the author because I want to respect his wishes and hard work put into this. This is not crazy considering the hundreds of hours these spent on colourizing all these frames.

Need to deliver your boards so you can get these installed in your games!

The next set of boards will start being assembled this weekend. Most are spoken for but there might be a few available...

Hey Everyone.

This is great to see that this are available assembled this side of the border!

Dino has confirmed that this price is in CDN and includes a wiring harness (power) based on the pin that it is going in. We are then accountable to find the appropriate colour rom files online. He said that it will do either single or four colour palette 'out of the box'.

Using them in TZ and RS would be cool but there are a few of my pins that should get this treatment.

Now I look for which pins have roms and I will be ordering!

Thanks Dino.

Sorry guys, been a bit slow the last few days. Been busy building! I might have a couple of this batch unspoken for so flip me a PM if you are interested.

new_displays.jpg

Regarding a few of the questions:

Cost is $250 CDN, no more, no less. And if you tell me what game, I will put together a wiring harness for you.

I'm in Pickering as Luch mentioned. If you are local we can try to meet up somewhere. Otherwise I can ship which will be added to the total. I sent 2 of these out to Calgary for $20. Might be a bit less if you are in Ontario but you can use that as a benchmark.

dnaman, sent you a PM.

mikea, I think you were looking at Fishtales. I'm checking to see if the colour files are ready for real pins or not. Will let you know.

soundcharger, I will check and see what's going on with Metallica. Have a look here -
