Was down at Player 1 yesterday & took a look at Led Zep 3. Loved the overall look of the game but was very disappointed in the playfield design, this thing is barren. I can't imagine forking out that kind of money for something so uninspired that relies solely on good looks & sound tracks. I could buy it if I wanted to but I think I'll pass.

Take a look at the premium or LE model. The Pro version on the floor is very basic. Just as the Guns And Roses SE model that they have on the floor seems a bit barren too.

I'll reserve judgement until I play it, but as a Led Zeppelin fan, I WANT to like this machine...
I know you shouldn't compare it to GnR but it's hard not to...
I love the music/band but I think what is getting tougher is when designers/coders are designing a bit differently than "get a good score" on a machine with a unique layout or some cool toys.
For example:
  • "Reach an objective" - Stern's Jurassic Park
  • "Rock concert under glass" - JJP's GnR
That said, I'd trade my BK:SOR (Anthrax music) for a LZ (premium) in a heartbeat based upon band preference alone...

Hey Steve, if you are still digging BK:SOR gameplay, just switch out the music with Pinball Browser - I almost sold my MET 3 years ago because of the music, but now love it because of the music, including Zeppelin on it now.

I have been playing LZ for the past week and it is starting to grow on me. I am starting to understand it better since the gameplay is not as obvious as many newer games that are more mode/objective based. This one is a bit of a throwback to older games where you need to really understand the scoring strategy. There is a lot of not so obvious stuff that is going on.

Is it the best game? No.
Is it the worst game? No.
Is it an enjoyable game? Yes
Is it a very enjoyable game if you like the band? Yes

If you want to invest the time in trying to understand it a deeper level, watch the video where rules and strategy are discussed with RayDay. Unfortunately it is still the pro though.

Hey @ritewhereiwant2b - Fair point on swapping out the music... I'm sure at some point I'll get tired of BKSOR kicking my ass and will want something new regardless...

@Monkeybug looking at the video, it just feels like something is missing with the optical spinner not there...
The only pro machine I don't really miss the bells & whistles on a premium was Star Trek...
Otherwise, it just bugs me that something the designer wanted in there is missing...

Regardless, if I encounter a premium or LE somewhere, I'll give it a good go...

I noticed recently that the pro and premium have two different playfields due to adjusting the artwork to fit in the Electric Magic spinner. I wonder if there are other Sterns like this?

And I agree, that EM spinner is one of the most satisfying shots in the game once its dialed in. There is a known problem with the spinner binding out of the box but a pair of needle nose pliers fixes it.
