JJP Hobbit is a great game and it's popularity is growing as a desirable JJP title. There is quite a few wanted ads on Pinside for The Hobbit ATM so likely the reason prices are increasing. Awesome game, GLWS.
Hard to beat LOTR. It's been my favourite game since I first played it, and regardless of what new game I get or play, it still remains my favourite.
However, comparing the two is difficult. They play so differently, and with one being in the LCD era, they aren't even in the same league.

I think that was a different one, with uninstalled RADCALs as it was purchased by a friend here in London.

This is not true - Radcals were factory optional on Hobbit, Dialed In and Pirates (and maybe later versions of WoZ) . On Wonka and GNR and future games you can only get factory radcals as standard equipment on the CE versions.
