Nothing wrong with buying a repro PCB at all, especially if there are gremlins in the original that just never seem to go away. I even bought a replacement driver PCB for my old Strikes n' Spares because one of the FET's went up in flames (common with FET's) and the carbon damage to the PCB was...
I'm still thinking where the sound deluxe PCB is doing it's self test ok (this rules out the ROMS and amp section), this is a communications issue between the MPU and sound PCB. I'm starting to think the only way to narrow this one down will be with a logic probe or scope.

You have no idea... I guess I'm just at that stage of collecting where I don't really NEED to set them up given the size of my collection. (it's still pretty sad tho, because normally I would have set them up the night I brought them home!)
