ColorDMD Unveils New HD Color Upscaling Across All Platforms!
ColorDMD Displays, the innovator of the multicolor dot matrix pinball display and SIGMA upscaling platform is pleased to announce the introduction of multicolor 14X upscaling across all new and existing display products!

This exciting new technology will be released beginning with The Simpsons Pinball Party in February! The new upscaling feature is compatible with all existing ColorDMD displays, and the company plansto release ROM updates for existing products.

All multicolor displays will soon include the ability to display classic dots, HD upscaled images, and a textured scan line effect. The unique 14X upscaling created for the ColorDMD provides the sharpest text possible while providing interesting visual effects for animation. Upscaling also produces the best display contrast possible by making use of all available pixels.

High-definition upscaling will be introduced as a FREE upgrade for all products, and keeps with the company's mission to innovate and provide as much value as possible to our customers.

We hope you are excited as we are by these renderings of TSPP! From the entire ColorDMD development team, we thank you all for your continued support!.

What is the Milhouse screen from? I don't think I've seen that one yet. Not that I pay too much attention to the DMD while I'm playing but all the rest look familiar.

Here's a few shots that might be interesting and show evolution of the ColorDMD with direct comparison of the original dot artwork and upscaled images. If you prefer dots, we're happy to provide them as both features are available at the press of a button.

I have to hope those look better in motion... I suppose it'd take new licensing, but you could probably create new drawn animation frames that key off the originals, couldn't you?

I'm sure it will look great when animated and also viewing from further back too.

I think for what they are, and what the source matierial is they don't look that bad... I mean we're talking about very lot bit graphics to begin with. I'm thinking these won't look all that bad in person from a players distance / perspective.

These look better than the TSPP screen shots. I agree, will look much better in game. I just held my phone further away and the pictures looked great!

Keep in mind there is no extra charge for this HD Color Upscaling and it is just an option in the firmware. If you don't like it you can easily switch back to classic dots. That's the nice thing about ColorDMD so far is they are always thinking about backwards compatibility. I remember when it first game out it was game specific and then later you could email Randy with your serial # for a free unlock code. Now you could download other firmware and flash your ColorDMD to be used in other games.

Which is the way it should have been from the beginning! (I always thought it was rediculous that they would lock the display to a specific title)

D

Maybe they underestimated the demand for these and didn't think it would sell like crack! :)

While it's easy to forget, pinball displays are all about conveying information. Most of the time, you're looking at text!

We use color to make it easy to separate scores from other information. A primary focus of the ColorDMD scaler has been to deliver the sharpest text possible in a pinball display!

Personally I like the look of the classic dots. When playing a game like WOZ with the big LCD screen, I just feel like it's too much, and in my opinion it actually makes the game look kinda cheap. The same way photoshop art on the playfield of real actors looks cheap.

The upscaled versions are alright, but still kinda too much.

The art is part of what pinball is all about. Creative artistic renditions of things created with the classics dots looks more "cartoony" which I think is more true to what pinball has always been.

Some of those samples are looking much better-the TSPP sample was just really jagged. Could be something that you could fix with a filter, but that's something that they'll be able to iterate. Glad to see they're rolling more value into the product.

Last four to round out our current catalog. If you review the posts, that's one preview from every game we've done (in reverse order back to our first)!

Not sure what else I can show you.
