I think I'm going to be in for a set of those EATPM plastics in anticipation of buying the game SOME DAY. Am I crazy for doing so even though I don't even own the game yet?

Nope, your are not crazy Rob. It is just very "advanced planning".
If you "KNOW" you are buying the game one day, (no matter what) no harm done.
Lots of us stockpile parts now planning for what we will do "one day" down the road.
