Interesting but still trying to figure out a serious use, other than in a competition environment.

I don't even see the value from a competition standpoint, I'd rather tourney cam so I can see what is going on from the player perspective, I've never had a hard time looking at the DMD.

I was thinking that the spectators could view the scores from far away, but the overhead cam is much cooler.

Looks like the creator of this DMD Extender product is working on software that will allow you to colorize any game. Check out this video where he walks you through the process and shows your the output on The Addams Family.

Looks promising and I PM'd him on costs associated with it. If it works out well this might be good because there are lots of talented people in the hobby and would be awesome if people would share their color configs for their games in a community.

Looks neat.

This reminds me, is there any software to create your own DMD frames, or more importantly, to digitize from existing video/images?

I am going to check in Visual Pinball if there is a feature to load a game ROM and dump images or screen captures because if you can then ColorDMD should look at using this as a tool for future releases. They have always mentioned in the past they are only able to colorize games they own or have physical access to.

I would ask the guys at Skit-B. I'm almost positive I had this conversation with Kevin and he mentioned using something to grab dots from existing footage or images.

There is a photoshop plugin that can be found here which I found years ago from another member I met on the Hyperspin forums. His name is Daniel Potter and the link for the plugin still works and can be found on his old blog which has been closed down due to an expensive content management system.

I was able to take an image like this:

and convert it to look like this:

If you are having trouble downloading or need help with the plugin shoot me a PM. I tried to convert some other images such as pictures and the effect is pretty neat.

I got an email this morning from David saying that he has these DMD extenders in stock and ready to ship. Also posted a youtube video showing some different effects that can be achieved. I hope the development on colorizing your own games is still going to be an option and not stepping on any other vendor's toes like ColorDMD.
