I stripped a bunch of wire forms and other small parts from my games for brass nickle plating to drop off at a local plating company. Drano had used these guys before for some chrome plating during his WH20 restore and Menace in recent months dropped some wire forms which he said turned out pretty good too. I figure since I was leaving for vacation the following week it would help me forget about the down time for a few of my games

I dealt with Diane at reception and right away she recognized them as pinball parts which was a good thing I guess.

She showed me a sample of what to expect for the brass nickle plating for my wire forms and parts which looked great. As well she showed me other sample finishes such as black nickle which I might try in the future for the Gun on my Shadow.

I dropped these parts off on May 20th and they were ready for pick up on June 4th, so about a 2 week turn around time which is how long it took for Menace's parts too. I couldn't wait to see how my TOTAN sword turned out and opened it on my way back to work during my lunch. Needless to say I got a few strange looks from the car next to me at the lights as I was waving it around in the air :p

Here are some pics of their work and will take more later once I get them all installed back in my games.

I'm quite happy with the results given the cost, turn around time and convenience of dropping and picking up my parts locally. This would have taken much longer and cost much more to send down to Mike Chestnut who is probably the best in the trade and the go to guy for high end restorers such as HEP. I'm sure Sun could do it but I would probably use Mike Chestnut for more specialized parts such as Demoman top handles, aprons, T2/STTNG shooters etc. He has done so many of them over the years and knows exactly how much prep is required for the best end result. I think for things such as wire forms and other small metal bits it is worth giving Sun Polishing a shot. If anyone wants to swing by and have a look are more then welcome to come by to look, play and have a beer.

Their rates are already VERY reasonable and I'd highly recommend them for wireforms especially.

I've used Sun since about 2007 when I first needed my IJ wireforms and gun re-done.
The wireforms were great. The gun was 'okay'.. but I did ask for a brushed gunmetal finish... which is what I got.

I've since done MM, TZ and, as Mike mentioned, all of my WH2O under-cabinet components. I love giving them galvanized steel boxes that house the power-in and power-out lines and getting back nice chromed ones. I even did the playfield hangers and slide bars... although I did not request a mirror finish... just something that was a lot cleaner than the originals.

My only recomendation is to give them clean parts.
Don't expect to drop off junk and pick up brand new pieces.

Now we just need to find a local place that can do stainless steel!!!

That's awesome, Mike! Perhaps we can get some special "PBRev rates" :)

The rates I was charged were more then reasonable and I can't see them charging less and they need to put food on their table too.

Not sure if you have pics as this was years ago but be nice to see a pic of your IJ gun before and after.

Back then I wasn't really into documenting anything. Doubt I have any before pics.... but I can snap a shot of the finished product. Nothing extraordinary, but it did look a lot cleaner than when I brought it to them and the gunmetal finish looked bang on. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was that it has some obvious brush marks.

Here's a pic of the IJ shooter, as promised.
It turned out pretty decent.

Also, these are the first wireforms I did with Sun back in 2007.
They've seen a lot of play and are holding up nicely... just in case anyone was curious about durability.

I got home late last night from checking out NGG with Elliot and figure it was only 1am and spent about an hour putting all my games back together and here are some pics.

Curious as to how much this batch cost?

Can't recall exactly Tim. But nothing crazy.
Probably somehwere between $250-$300? But don't let the quantity of parts fool you. If I had walked in with just 3-4 pieces it still would have run me a couple of hundred simply because they have a minimum charge fee structure.

I might have a lead through work. We use a fab shop that does electropolishing on stainless. They make custom stainless steel stuff for us. Anything polished is electropolished and it comes out shiny new. I can take a pic of the end result.

You guys should try to pool your parts together as there is a minimum charge of $125 regardless if you plate say 3 parts or up to 10 parts depending on the size and area. I wouldn't mind send in my MM wire forms for plating so they are as shiny as the Shadow next to it. So far it has been 9 months and that plating seems to be holding up just fine.

Would you send siderails, lockbar and legs to these guys? I was only thinking of sending in wireforms with these guys.

Sun can not plate lockdown bars or side rails because they are stainless steel. For that you will have to contact Mike Chestnut.

Where is Mike chestnut isn't he in the states? I have no contact info on him. FastEd maybe we need to combine orders for better price and shipping.
