Is it me, or does that LCD / backbox setup look kinda home-brew / micky mouse? I can't put my finger on it, but something about it just isn't sitting right with me...

Now that it's all on-line, it's impossible to tell how many shill bids were placed and how many were buy backs. In the old days you could see who was bidding and we all knew if it was being shilled / bought back.
Clearly SB is loving the new format. Wonder if we'll see any of these in the...
Doing any sort of restoration on a game for the most part is unjustifiable, as Ben said it's should only be done for the love of the game because when you boil it right down you will always lose money. (because time is money) Now regardless of how much you COULD spend on buying a restored game...
Sounds like a switch / opto issue for sure. Put the game into switch test and using the balls (not your fingers) confirm all of the optos & switches in the trough are registering correctly. My guess is at least one of them will be intermittant or not working at all, which would cause the...
Where you mention the display gets better the longer it's on, I can pretty much gaurentee you the glass portion of the display is outgassing. Unfortuately there is no way to repair this other than to replace the glass display. You should be able to verify this by moving a known working display...

Nah, if you've got a bit of sandpaper and a soldering iron you can repair it. (unless the coil locked on from a bad transistor and melted the coil) Just unwind the broken coil winding one turn and then sand off the red coating with the sandpaper, wrap the freshly sanded wire around the solder...
If the coil winding isn't broken on the eyes closed coil (which is common), it's likely a broken eye's closed plunger. (also common) There is a way to get Ted out without having to remove all the crap around him, but it's not easy and you need the right tools and patience.

Yeah, it used to be but there have been a few shows as of late that are giving it a run for it's money, specifically the Texas Pinball Fest that just happened a couple weeks ago.
I like Expo because it's a great location, you can do the Stern factory tour, it's spread out over 3-4 days with...
