Well, where this display is more than just the glass it would be best to try and get a schematic and check to see what all is in the power supply section of the circuit to see if there is anything that could potentially cause the short. I don't have one of these handy so I cannot comment on...

Make sure you do all your connector removal and replacement with the power off, or you will blow stuff up. There is clearly a short somewhere, and it could very well be in the display itself. If you can, replace the blown fuse, disconnect the display and power it up. If the fuse blows again...

You are correct. The pins on the physical PCB are numbered sequentially, and are not in the schematic for ease of drawing. As long as you can find pin 1 on the PCB you're golden. D

Ok, I don't have a RS but I do have a FH so I'll do my best... Wiring / schematic diagrams in the manuals have known to be incorrect, but are usually well documented on RGP. The eyes in FH have separate coils for eyes left and right (one coil for each direction) so not sure what you're talking...

Usually if bulbs in the GI are burning out they are brighter than the rest and are seeing more voltage than they should. (this can happen if a number of other bulbs are out in the same GI string given the design) As for the insert, I would think it's just a fluke? D

And transit issues would be resolved as well if a location such as a college was obtained. Excellent idea... D
