Those are the ones that use the IR sensors, right? What's the issue? I never had any luck with getting light guns to work properly, but I was using a different gun setup (can't remember the name offhand, but it used an svideo passthrough to a CRT).

Also, which games have you had an issue with? Remember that games like Operation Wolf and T2 work differently from games like Point Blank and Area 51. I'm pretty sure most of the "static mount" gun games look more like a joystick rather than an optical gun.

True Story, I have a Mame cab with the same set up. T2 and Carnevil need to be set up separately from the other gun games. Is your gun not working at all or is the aim wonky? If the aim is wonky you probably need to re-calibrate them (left to right and up and down in the menu{X,Y} did you recently put anything in the usb port? That could mess it up to, It thinks the usb is a gun and wont read the actual gun. For example if I have the mame on and plug in the keyboard It will read the keyboard as the gun and I have to reset everything back up. I leave the cordless keyboard and mouse in after I fix a issue and it seems to run allot smother. Other things to look at is the gun censer....possibly shifted or dirty (not likely but worth the look) also if your running it off windows 7 or 8 maybe needs to update. Hopefully this helps

The guns were working properly. Then I started watching videos to try and set up Carnevil and T2. Then I messed them up. I went into the menu and re calibrated the guns with the x analog and y analog. But what is happening is the crosshairs on the screen only move up and down on the side of the screen. They will not move side to side. If you move the gun really slowly it will jump across the screen but only the odd time.

The guy that built it for me was trying remotely the other day to fix the issue but no luck yet.

I am thinking some setting is wrong somewhere.

Sounds like the calibration is off.

The aimtrak guns default setting is to start the calibration when you hold the trigger for 5 seconds. This is a big problem for games like T2 where you hold the trigger for most of the game. It's been a while but I think that once you hold the trigger long enough the crosshairs jump to the top left of the screen. You aim it up and pull the trigger. Then it jumps to the top right, aim it up, pull the trigger then it jumps to center bottom.

To prevent this from happening you have to change how the gun enters calibration mode. You'll have to download the calibration software from ultimarc's web page.

This is what your looking for.

In the button assignment box. You want to uncheck the "Enable Cal" box, or change it to activate when you hit the button off screen and increase the delay time to something longer then 5seconds.

If this doesn't fix the problem then there will be a second calibration within the t2 game menu.

I think you'll find it in the Mame menu (press tab) it might be under the dip switch settings. If your still having problems I can look into it and take some screenshots to walk you through it. It's been a while since I've had to set up a lightgun.

Ya that wont fix it. It seems to just work on the y axis and not the x. It will go across the screen but only if you move the gun very slowly and even then it jumps across the screen

Did you check the controls for Mame in the player 1 menu? Make sure you don't have anything else for the lightgun controls. There's 3 for each direction. 1st the analog control, 2nd a button for X+, 3rd a button for X-

If the gun works for one direction then the sensor bar is reading it. The problem is in the configuration.

Just as an aside, how are the aimtrack guns? I've got one of the old ACT-Labs ones, and it's never worked quite right.

I bought my Aimtrak gun in Dec 2011 and it is still sitting in the box :)

I have been following the Aimtrak development before when people were retrofitting the electronics and sensors into old Namco Time Crysis guns from PS1/PS2.

I did play around with EMS Top Gun IIs before and picked up a used pair but wasn't impressed with how finicky they were to setup. Everyone I have spoken to who bought an Aimtrak were able to get it up and running without any issues. If you are having troubles send Andy at Ultimarc an email as his tech support for his products is amazing.

Move your Mame ini out of folder and make a new one. Compare the gun settings to yours and see what's been changed.
