Hey guys, I am new to this site and to the pinball hobby.

I currently have an F14 Tomcat as my first machine, and I am semi stripping it and repairing/cleaning the playfield, just so I can sort of learn how this bad boy works!

Anyways, I cam across this thread and have been reading up on some of these posts. From what I gather, these "container pinballs" are damaged machines that need some major TLC to get back up and running, is this an accurate statement? How does it all work? Sorry for my ignorance, but I am really curious in this and might be interested in picking up a semi project machine.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hi, we are doing our first container pin this month ...
After discussion here with some experienced folks (like Drano...) ... YMMV - machines tend to be a bit dirty, photos are reasonably accurate as to damage. ASK for more photos is the machine listed/shown does not have enough - Gerry can sometimes get them...

It is not risk free but that is why some of the more coveted and rarer models are cheaper ... maybe not for the faint of heart or with can't-afford-to-take-a-risk-with funds...

I have purchased 2 and working on a 3rd (and I have also seen/heard reviews from others) and I would say this statement is not 100% accurate.

I would say that the machines are generally "running" for the most part. If they are not, Gerry usually says so.
That being said, there will be errors, a few missing/broken parts that need replacing, and definitely plenty of dirt ;)

I don't expect you will get a dead machine showing up at your door... unless you knew that going in. You will need to do some repair and cleanup for sure, but my understanding is that most of these game boot. It should be no different than buying a routed game here in North America... aside from the boat trip.

If you feel comfpratble with a little troubleshooting and giving a machine a shop, you should be fine... but ask a lot of questions if you are unsure.

Good luck.

Awesome reply, thanks for the info. Ok that sounds good to me. I might very well be interested in purchasing from here. Like I said, I am current;y going through my first game and cleaning it up, and I am loving the challenge of figuring out what everything does. So I think I would be up for shopping a new machine. I will look into this. Thanks for the info.

It really makes you wonder what Gottlieb's art department was smoking there near the end? :FP:

I know a lot of us cry for the return of original themes, but Genesis is just one big ???

My final grail pin

You've long worn out being able to say that

Nope. Its true.
TOTAN has been on my radar seriously for the last year and I've been able to pick up just about everything else I wanted except that game. It has eluded me for a variety of reasons. Just ask Gerard ;)

Like you, I have a couple of games on order, but this is the last pin I've actually been "hunting".

Fingers crossed we can get this all sealed up soon! While I have money :D
