Nice piece, although way to vague (and partially incorrect) as to why pinball was initially made illegal in many states across the US. At that time many of them were actually 'paying out' on location in various forms, which is why they got lumped in as gambling devices along with slots etc. (and one has to wonder if this is where part of it's popularity came from back in the day)
For those that enjoy the history of the game, Roger Sharpe wrote an excellent book on the subject.

The first issue of "Pinball Magazine" which has a bazillion page interview with Sharpe hints at the extreme demand for a revision/follow-up to this book, yet also highlights Sharpe's lack of desire/time to do so.
