Backglass Sealing

I have an old 70s backglass that is flaking. Looking for advice on how to easily seal it & prevent further degradation. Thanks.

I taped off the scoring areas and used clear varnish spray.
Did a few light coats.

Have seen people use white or even black.
Stick to clear.
