Im new to the pinball world and have been purchasing some machines but i cant seem to understand the pricing. Why would this pin from 1994 be even in the same ball park as a trade for a brand new pin like godzilla? Not trying to stir the pot, im legitimately trying to understand the pricing on used pins. At this point it seems like a better deal to buy new than used. Just looking for clarification.

I think it is a function of supply and demand. I just noted those games if anyone happens to have one for trade to start the discussion. My preference is to sell for cash. Older games are becoming more in demand given they are harder to find. This game also has a lot of upgrades, which add to the value. It is a very popular game, ranked 42 in the top 100 on Pinside.

I seen this pin in person when I picked up a super nice AC/DC from. Jim. The shadow is really really nice as are all his pins. It would be in NB if I had more room and more $$.

Probably a few reasons:
-Shadow is a reasonably rare title. There were a lot of those that were trashed for parts, and a lot that were just trashed because it's a game from 1994. It got "rediscovered" by the collector/player community, so it's a desirable title. Now, part of that was because it was also an affordable game back in the day, but it's still fun.
-This game has a lot of upgrades. The colorDMD alone is $600, probably $200 for the pinstadiums (might be more), and another $100 for the FF speakers. The Aurich translite/speaker panel also weren't cheap ($250 I think), and aren't being made anymore, so I'd bet there are fewer than 400 of those around.
-New pins are also more expensive now. A GZ Pro would be close to $10k now (6699 US = 8,700CAD = 9831 CAD all in). That's also assuming that you can get one-there are long waitlists for new pinball, especially in Canada.

Anyway, this looks like a really nice Shadow-good luck with the sale!

I wouldn't try and make any sense out of the pricing. It is beyond my comprehension and I bought my first game in 2001 to 2002 I believe. Prices have gone no where but up in the last 20 years. As far as a better deal, I guess that depends on your definition of what a deal is. I just don't think there is such thing as a deal in pinball any longer. Older pins have their charm for sure, Shadow is a heck of a game and this looks like a great example. If you haven't spent any time on older Bally/Williams games they just play entirely differently, they feel different. They're pretty awesome.

If you're thinking about pinball from an investment perspective, it's probably best not to, buy the games you like and want to play, trying to figure out if there is any room on a $9,500 Shadow to make any money yourself in the future or even breakeven is a lost cause. Cross your fingers and hope you can get that back out of it, or be comfortable with taking a loss is the way I look at any pinball purchase these days.

As a generalization I think the attitude of pinball collectors these days seem to run contrary to the way I always approached the hobby and that was I was alright with taking a loss on a game, it's nice to break even, but losing a couple of bucks to play a game for a couple of months was cool by me. Now it seems a lot of people want to make money on their investment... which is cool and the gang, nothing wrong with people making money, it does make the world go around.

I'm with @roar, lol, what he said!

Anyhoo, a solid game has been posted, seller is being straightforward, has provided pics and information on what is included. He's put in a price in cad$. If someone wants to make an offer, they private message the seller.

@ChickenCatcher, there are tons of threads where you can find more information about pricing, or forums about how costs have evolved. You can find tons of threads to bitch about it if you want, lol. I think you've already seen great advice right here on this FS post. As you mentioned, you've already purchased games yourself - I bet you researched prices, looked at how much games were being sold, etc. Hopefully you got to pay the amount YOU thought the game was worth at the end.

There's no specific pricing guide or rule here. If you want a Shadow, I don't think you'll find a better looking one right this moment. If you really want it, make an offer. If the game is not properly priced, it won't sell. Simple as that!

Found the Blueray DVD. You really need to watch the original movie if you are going to own this game. Will throw it in. Thanks.
