I've got a trashed F2K I picked up a while ago and plan to finish shopping it out and making it play properly this week.

Today I'm working with the ultrasonic cleaner. Not looking to tumble anything since the condition of the game no reason to go over board

That's pretty impressive-how much was the cleaner? If it's safe to use on bits with switches etc still attached, then it makes it a little more useful than a tumbler, doesn't it?

I wouldn't recommend washing any switches in any solution, as the MFG's suggest switches are not washable unless rated as such. (things like switches and relays are usually populated AFTER main PCB assembly and washing)

It's a 50:50 mixture of this stuff

And water.

It was only in there for 480 seconds.

Leaf switches might be ok but I doubt micro switches would survive the bath

Not bad for a days work

Now just need to take apart and clean the trough, rebuild the flippers, and adjust everything and then I can move onto my next project

Either clean this guy up

Or set this guy up and see how much work I got ahead of me

I'm leaning toward setting up the machine

Ah, I didn't realize that there was still a solution involved. That makes more sense though-it's just using the sonics as a way to agitate the solution around the parts. Still cool though.

Actually, solution or not all switch MFG's claim to never wash switches anytime with anything unless the particular switch is designed for it. Even with just plain water the mineral deposits that it would leave behind on the switch contacts would impede correct opperation.

How about distilled water? I have used it in the past for keyboards and computer components.

Keyboards depending on the design could be fine, as I've seen these more as a membrane type switch. But anything with a set of internal contacts that isn't IP 67/68 rated and you can bank on the mfg claiming not to wash these under and circumstances. The same goes for relays that are not sealed.

I'm also having issues with the 5 bank of drops they don't want to stay up on reset.

Stern has their own specific drop targets so I'm looking to find new ones

I've said it before and I'll say it again I love this tap and die kit

Just finishing up rebuilding the left flipper and the bolt that tightens the flipper the hole stripped. 5 mins with a new tap and the pawl is salvaged and I can continue finishing this off
