Game 72! ColorDMD Walks the Plank!
ColorDMD is excited to announce that Black Rose is the 72nd game to be supported by the ColorDMD multicolor pinball display platform, and the third gamereleased in 2018! ColorDMD continues to invest in development for the benefit of the community, and extend support for less widely owned games like Black Rose.
As with most projects, Black Rose presented some unique new development challenges. An early WPC game, Black Rose was released at a transition point where WPC graphics were transitioning from an earlier format to what would later become used on later WPC andWPC95 games. Some adjustments to our coloring engine were required to address and unify mixed formats across different animation sequences.
Veteran developer Eric Priepke stepped up to take care of the rest, and provide both colorful and tasteful enhancements to the early pixel art in BlackRose. This is Eric's fifteenth title as a lead developer, adding to his credits on The Walking Dead, Spider-man, Tales from the Crypt, and many others!
In addition to Black Rose, Eric has been hard at work on another title that will be revealed later this week and previewed at the Texas Pinball Festival in March!
Black Rose shares the same backbox design as Gilligan's Island and benefits from the small size of the ColorDMD LED display. As with Gilligan's Island, the LED display can be mounted behind the backglass by remote mounting the controller board behind the lamp board.
All displays ship with the factory installed SIGMA ROM that supports WPC, WPC95, SAM, Whitestar, and SPIKE platforms. Multicolor operation is enabled through downloadand installation of a game-specific color ROM file, available from our site. ROMs can be changed at any time, allowing use with any of our supported titles.
Displays are shipping now from our store site or through our distributors. The color ROM for Gilligan's Island pinball machines is targeted for release by Friday, March9!
