ColorDMD Rolls Out Support for Monopoly!

In a move that may raise a few eyebrows, ColorDMD is excited to announce Monopoly as the 19th supported game for the ColorDMD pinball display platform!

Monopoly is the second game colored by Dave Timmer, following work on Road Show released earleir this year! Monopoly is the fourth Stern title to be colorized (following LOTR, TSPP, and AC/DC), and is the fifth new ColorDMD title introduced since the beginning of 2015!

With help from Dave's artistry, Monopoly's Rich Uncle Pennybags has a new spring in his step, guiding you through the game as you hunt for the green. The bright familiar colors from the original board game are back, infused throughout the animation sequences and adding to the fun! Please join us in thanking Dave for his effort to get this one done!

Monopoly represents the most recent release in a series of community led projects, driven by developers with a passion to extend colorization to games that might not otherwise be reached. Coloring and supporting games can be a herculean task at times and we are extremely grateful for the widespread community support that both we and our developers receive.

Monopoly shares the same hardware platform as previous ColorDMD releases, and displays are available now for immediate shipment.

The color ROM for Monopoly is targeted for release by Friday, March 20!

This was done by a community member, no doubt because he owns the game and wanted to for fun. With this approach, any game on a supported platform can be colourized by someone with the interest and talent to doing so. This is a great approach by ColorDMD to expand the appeal of their product. Even so, I have a Monopoly but doubt I'll be sinking the large $$$ to buy this mod.

I find it very convenient that ColorDMD seems to be more focused on Stern titles since the announcement from their competition in SmartDMD... My guess is they are pushing to get as many Stern titles done and out before SmartDMD has the opportunity.

Too bad they are doing games most dont want to pay extra for.

Ever since they opened it up to more devs though, it really doesn't mean that doing game A prevents them from doing game B. Also, given that the displays are more interchangeable now, you can easily try one in Monopoly for a few weeks, and then move it over to LOTR, TSPP, or WH20 if you don't think it's worth it.

Yeah but how long before Stern starts putting these into their games , albeit with a price increase

Hell, I'd welcome it-a way to get the better display without having to sink the cost of the LED DMD in there in the first place. I'd rather pay $150 for an upgrade than $400 for a new display that replaces something that'll just sit on a shelf. I'm honestly pretty amazed that the spike games are still driving a dot display rather than a regular LCD. I can't imagine that the part cost is that different these days, and production cost on custom dot animations has to be almost as high as just regular animation/graphics these days. I have a feeling that the only thing holding things where they are is the existing investment in assets/systems to create the dots, and if they were still on SAM I wouldn't be surprised, but with the move to Spike, I figured it would have been the time when Engineering said that was enough and stopped supporting driving output to a regular DMD.

MONOPOLY RELEASED!

Our 19th supported color ROM for Monopoly Pinball machines was released just last week! A link to a video preview is provided below and the color ROM is available for download from theSUPPORT page of our site! The video was recorded using TILE mode, one of the new rendering styles available from the 3.X ROM updates!

ALL ROMS UPDATED!

This week we have updated all supported ROMs to the new ColorDMD version 3 coloring engine. The version 3 engine adds extended backlight and contrast controls, and provides a choice of six different rendering modes:
  • Classic Dots
  • DOTXL for bigger, brighter dots
  • HIRES for high resolution upscaling
  • SCAN uses high resolution upscaling and adds a textured scan line effect
  • TILE for a grid-like appearance, and
  • 8-BIT style square pixels
These new features are freely available from our site and work with all ColorDMD displays. Older displays (purchased prior to May 2013) may require a product key update after installation of the new color ROM. Instructions for key updates are also available on our SUPPORT page.

Thank you as always for your continued interest and support! For more information, please visit us at www.colordmd.com.
