ColorDMD Announces Game 18!

ColorDMD Displays is excited to introduce support for AC/DC pinball machines! AC/DC was colored by Brandon Pennington (colorist for the company's previously released Judge Dredd display) with support from Mark Jarzewiak (Doctor Who, Simpsons Pinball Party, and a supporting role on Indiana Jones). Their work on AC/DC is simply astounding!

AC/DC marks the 18th game supported by the ColorDMD platform and the first to utilize the extended shading available from SAM games. ColorDMD's unique processing combines color hues with the game's full range of dot intensities to yield up to 193 colors per frame. AC/DC represents the most rich color rendering of any game to date!

AC/DC leverages the company's easy-to-install ColorDMD SIGMA display platform, and supports five different rendering styles that include classic dots, high-resolution upscaling, tiles, 8-bit, and scan-line texturing. Multicolor operation is enabled through free download and installation of a game-specific color ROM using a USB drive. The display may be reconfigured for use with any supported title.

Displays from our upcoming production release are now available for preorder, with shipping targeted to begin the week of March 9. The color ROM for AC/DC will be available for download at the time of shipping.

Thank you for your continued support! For additional information, including upcoming game previews, please visit us at www.colordmd.com!

Here are some frame grabs from the upcoming AC/DC release. The shots of the clouds and album cover really show off the extended shading effects SAM provides on the ColorDMD platform and Brandon did a great job with some added detail!

I wouldn't be surprised if the next few releases from ColorDMD will be for Stern because I think that is all SmartDMD can colorize if I am not mistaken? So the more titles ColorDMD does for Stern the smaller the market will be for SmartDMD.

For those on the fence between ColorDMD or SmartDMD, here is a great write up by aurich on pinside

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/colorddmd-vs-smartdmd-comparison

I also got to see a LOTR with ColorDMD upscale and wasn't a fan. I mean the animations looked great but I thought all the fonts looked weird. I personally prefer regular colored dots. I also got to play a Bride of Pinbot 2.0 and the Dutch Pinball guys did a great job on the DMD animations on that game!

The color ROM for AC/DC pinball machines is now available for download!

For dot lovers, we're also excited to announce the addition of a new DOTXL rendering mode with extra large and bright dots!

Thanks again to Brandon (Gov) and Mark (Shimoda) for all the hard work to get this done!
