Old news by now, but I'd thought I'd post and comment here on the Elvira and the Party Monsters re-themed "Boobie Edition". I think the actions of the video's host say it all: he seems embarrassed talking about the game, and can hardly bring himself to use the word "boobies". There is an air of discomfort about the video, as well there should be. Elvira is all about her curvy body and sexuality...but the KEY to her shtick was that it was all done on the clean...tongue in cheek, if you will...with no overt nudity or vulgarity. Thus, this pinball misses the mark completely. Missing the mark was the basis of her 1988 movie: she arrives in a conservative small town and is labelled as a filthy slut, when in actual fact she's simply expressing sexuality and allowing sex to be openly discussed. Elvira achieved popularity partly due to horndog teenagers of the 80s dreaming about her without clothes on. Here we see what these same horndog teenagers have achieved now that they are "all growed up". Congratulations.
To my knowledge, Cassandra Peterson while in Elvira character, has never appeared topless (Peterson, before Elvira fame, posed nude for film and print), so who know what she would have to say about this. Can't believe Nordman went ahead and gave his thumbs up. Almost lost my shit when they complained about the original cabinet having a penis carved into it..."YOU GUYS ARE DOING THE EXACT SAME F*CKING THING" I shouted at the computer. Even though one image was created with a jack knife and the others with acrylics/brush, both achieved the same crude result of de-classing the machine. Should have left the carved penis in the cabinet, it would have complimented the poorly drawn boobs on the backglass.
In the end, who cares what is done with a twenty-five year old pinball machine...but the game being a grail of mine it moved me to comment. If I want to see boobs, I can see them any time I want (thanks, Interweb!), in any shape, size or colour. You can keep your poorly drawn cartoon ones on your Elvira pin, thank you very much. I'd rather use my imagination.
