Stern came up with the promo for all it's distro's. Great idea. I did here from The Pinball Show that may be blemished and not usable in an actual game but it's still a great piece of wall art.

I think Nitro can chime in here. Zach said they are B tiered playfields that are flawed in some way. Not sure if Nitro has something different to offer.

B-tier means that they cannot use it in a game. Reasons go from misaligned holes, to minor scratches, to paint spots.

That's unfortunate but if they are only for art purposes, this should be stated in the first post, changed from: "And if you order your Stern pinball machine right now, we will include an official replacement playfield from Stern!".

It is a neat offer but very different from that claim. GLWTS!

Sorry for the confusion, but that's how those playfields are called by Stern! Moreover, the original post clearly states it's for decoration. We also stated that a RANDOM playfield will be allocated to each client, you will agree that's pretty hard to replace a GZ playfield for an Avenger playfield in a machine, for example.

Perhaps you should re-read your posting!! It says you will receive ”An official Replacement Playeild from Stern”. When in fact it is not a replacement playfield, but rather a defect / defective playfield that is not usable aside from making into some form of a display piece (if that excites you…..). A usable playfield has considerably more value, a wall hanger is limited to a very few who would hsng that on their wall. I suppose it’s still better than nothing.

I've had to respond to a number of requests for this promo because of misleading information.

To be clear:
- These are considered 'B' tier playfields that were rejected from factory for machine use
- They're not useable in machines due to extra holes, less quality on clear or art etc
- They are given at random from the factory and specific games can't be requested
- They are quite limited quantities
- They are first come first serve when they arrive at the dealers and can't be applied to prior orders and promo ends as soon as allocation is gone

That said, it is a neat throw in, but its not remotely what was claimed above.

Not sure I see the value here. Buy NIB and accept the immediate depreciation of thousands of dollars (depending on model) just to get a blemished playfield likely not worth $500?

I'd personally buy a lightly used pre-owned game, and use my significant savings to purchase a usable playfield. I generally buy a backup pf for all my bolted games anyhow.

This move by Stern reeks of desperation. IMO this move along with them reducing the LE count of X-Men shows there are concerns. Distros aren't selling games like they used to, and Stern is still expecting them to take hefty allocations.

When the distros inventory starts stacking up, and the bills start to pile, that is when Stern will start to feel it.

This is my prediction at least. I love the hobby, but the greed is beyond words. I think eventually the manufacturers will have to reduce pricing or volume (significantly) or pinball will experience it's next winter.

I've spoken to numerous distros locally and abroad, and most have been very transparent about sales not being even close to what they were, or what they need them to be.

Only time will tell. But for now, Stern can keep their rejected playfields, and I'll keep my money right here in my wallet.

Well, after all the vetting in this thread, it kinda takes the shine off of the title: "FREE official playfield from Stern with your next Purchase at NITRO PINBALL!"

Maybe a rewrite is in order: "So, Stern has all these B-Tier play fields that didnt pass inspection and now collecting dust and sales have been slow, so a marketing guy thought 'lets polish this turd' and offer it as an incentive!! er...Wow Hoo!! get 'em while quantities last!!!"

Honestly, I'll take whatever free throw ins that Stern will give us. A bonus is a bonus and that's better than nothing imo. Would a normal one be better? absolutely.

However, misrepresenting it is my problem. I've had a lot of people from past purchases reach out expecting a new pristine playfield of their choice because the poster contacted them spreading the misrepresentation.

It's irresponsible and kind of shady to me.
