Just to play devils advocate for a minute.

Do you think people on real estate forums complain about houses selling for more than asking price?
Is it wrong to offer above asking price on a house you really want?

It's a capitalist market out there and I've see more then one situation that has left me scratching my head.

I hate this analogy. Your not the first to use it.

Real Estate is a business, pinball is a HOBBY!

Unless you are in the business of pinball, we are all just hobbyists, and there in lies the difference.

and if you need me to explain the above difference then obviously you are not a hobbyist.

I agree with you on this Adam, but what if we change the commodity.

Cars, majority of which will go down, do have the collectors, and the fluctuating market. I know its a bad example, as the skew of money making vs money losing is MUCH larger, but there are the "hobbyists" who will pay crazy money for classics, and restorations that they just "must have" even if it seems to inflate the pricing overall.

Im not detracting from what you've said, but sadly, every hobby will have the big bucks buyers, its just a matter of type of hobby and the wealth of hobbyist.
