Disappointed to see a few For Sale ads now with "Best Offer". In the past, Pin Rev always enforced an asking price and pictures. So is this the new direction? Just list a game with best offer?

If your selling something there usually is a asking price.
That classified rules were something I think Brock came up with when he first launched PBREV. There are ways to work around these rules like changing your for sale ad to for trade and now you will not need to list an asking price. Again don't know what to say or do about that except just shake my head and thankfully the last 4 WPCs I sold in the past month didn't have to go through the classifieds here, kijiji or FB market place. I find in general people who do not list an asking price and accept offers via PM are not motivated to actually sell their pin and just fishing for top dollar (aka "sucker").
Again not trying to offend but I find these days there are a lot of these types of collectors if you can even call them that in the community compared to 10 years ago when deals with generally paid forward and people helping each other out to get deals. I think I've assisted in over 500 pins exchanging hands during my time hence my nickname being the enabler. My favorite assist was helping my friend McMean secure this LOTR LE that he had been looking for 2-3 years. This pin was listed on kijiji for slightly below market value and McMean figured pin is probably long gone and went to bed since it was 1130pm when ad came up. Despite that I emailed the seller who recognized my name and replied to me saying he is overwhelmed with responses with lowball offers and asked how serious I was. He said he would rather deal with someone familiar with a good rep then for this to go to someone who is going to just flip it for more. I said very serious and could probably pick up tomorrow or the weekend which was only a day away. So we agreed on his full asking price and next morning I sent McMean a message on whatsapp saying: "Good morning, I just spent $4700 of your money last night while you were sleeping and bought a LOTR LE
" He was so happy and that weekend my friend Brewmanager helped him pick up and grabbed his Tron too.
As someone new to the hobby it was infuriating seeing everyone say "DM me" on facebook when asked about the machine. I want to actually know what I'm looking at and what the price is so I can understand what the value of things are in this hobby. Not having any of this discussion in the open just seems like it's meant to make it so newbies like me don't know what they're getting or if they're overpaying.
If you want to sell it but don't know a price that's pretty weird. If you do know a price you are looking for what's the harm in posting it?
I feel like the only reason to take the price talk to DMs is to take advantage of people who don't know so much.
Then again I'm the type of person to offer someone their asking price...so maybe I'm just a sucker
As some of the top collectors know... I WAS THE SUCKER BEING TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS at the beginning! Over charged, Mods removed etc... No warm fuzzy feelings or paying it forward... just lies, manipulation and being taken advantage of! I got so sick of being screwed over I started buying NIB from the States just to avoid them! I didn't put a price on my ad because I don't want to sell it, I want to trade it for something on my list, if an incredible offer comes in so be it (It's an incredibly hard game to find in Canada TODAY). I added a saying others have used and low and behold I get hammered down again by the man and his crew! It's all good... the nail that sticks out is the nail that gets hammered down! Okay, having said all that I have met some really great people in this hobby and they have sold me some great pins too!!! Shout out to all those who sold me pins and know they didn't snake me!!! Slightly off topic but I understand Pinside has a "confirmed sale price" which if does exist is great. Nothing wrong with being a open book and it helps give general guidance to those new to the hobby. Those seeking to make a large profit may frown on this idea but I think if your honest no one should have a issue with this idea? For example my Elvira & TPM along with Diner sold for $10 grand. Diner would of represented $4500 and Elvira $5500. Good deal for both buyer and seller on both sides. The funds I used to buy a very nice HUO JP Pro delivered/set-up for $9300. Over time this would give some sort of guidance in general. JIMHO
Sorry to here you got screwed over in the past but did you do your research such as maybe asking around for reference checks on seller or even sometimes search their post history here or maybe on other forums like pinside or maaca? Over the years I've gotten lots of PMs from new people I've never met before ask me if I have ever dealt with or know or heard good or bad things about dealings with this seller. I make it a habit to try and lock threads once a machine has been marked sold because I hate seeing these threads bumped back up to the top and also there should be no need for more banter. But if you bought from a seller and got screwed you can send me a PM to unlock the thread so you can get in a post to at least warn others if they weren't willing to make things right. The community today is not the same as it was before and in case you haven't noticed lots of the older "vets" don't post regularly or at all these days but they are active in pinball still. There is a reason why and it's because of the people you've had dealings with or people who in it to profit and take advantage.
I agree with your points and never understood why I had to do some much moderation to clean up your for sale ads before. The way I see it if a game is priced right it will sell and if not it will sit stale for days/weeks/months. I try my best to lock threads once a game has been sold and hope the seller doesn't remove details like what they sold or at the very least leave their original asking point so there is some form of reference.

I think the asking and selling prices are super important for everyone in the hobby. Having a semi-local price point (or Canadian at least) on a particular pin in a particular timeframe is way more valuable than any price policing, laugh emojis or whatever else gets posted nowadays. We are extremely fortunate to have such a great resource, here in Canada, with Canadian pricing, because in my experience Pinside pricing has absolutely nothing to do with pricing in Canada, regardless of exchange rates or whatever, unless NIB of course. Personally I would love to have that reference just to manage my own self in the hobby. Everyone wants to ‘protect’ newbies by calling out what is perceived as overpricing but the simplest, easiest way to do that is just to post prices so when they Google their first purchase there is at least a reference point.

I'd love to see some sort of Canadian price guide but I don't think it's feasible with how much things are changing right now and how few sales go on in Canada.

I completely agree. I follow the for sale ads to try to have an idea of current pricing, which is easier said than done in the current market. That way I'll know if a machine is in my price range to start with, and if I'm interested, I don't waste both my and the sellers time with unrealistic expectations.
On a side note, if a price is stated as firm, and it's more than I want to pay, I won't make an offer.
Sorry for the rant, but here is my take on this, take it for what it's worth.....
I'm in no way talking about any person in particular but I personally grew tired of trying to deal with people in the hobby for a cup of coffee.
There's nothing better than being educated by someone without a clue, about a hobby you've been involved in a good chunk of your life.
When I wanted to move my last game I first offered it around to my local community, people I actually know in person, even hang out with on occasion.
After that mwong somehow got wind of the game and contacted me, letting me know he knew of an interested buyer (ended up being someone I knew).
5 minutes after being contacted the game was sold. Sounds crazy but this is how easy a transaction can be between two people that trust the other person is being honest.
I also knew when that game left, there would be no email 3 months later that something broke and they now wanted some sort of restitution. Yes that happens and it's always someone new, even after being told the warranty ends the second the game gets broken down.
Now compare that transaction to listing the game online........I'll gladly take a fair price to avoid all that, over listing it online and trying to squeeze every last penny out of a game.
It's not worth it and not why I'm in the hobby.
I don't buy and sell often any more but there is zero motivation for me to list a game online or even try to purchase a game that way.

Remember we straight traded my TSPP for your Indy 500 and JM back in 2011? Here is a pic to jog your memory when I kept telling you the night before how bad my stairs were. You were like don't worry Mike I've moved pins up from some of the worst places.
After we lugged TSPP up, moved JM and Indy 500 down what did you say to me afterwards? Mike you are right your stairs are a nightmare and worst I have ever encountered. Your buddy Jim's shirt was drenched in sweat and probably a few tears
