Well, I played StarTrek @ SB again today for perhaps 3 games.
Very brief as I had no time. I was on lunch break. No lunch.
No washrooms and no water at SB either. Meh!
Damn....

I was holding out for Hobbit, but since meeting
Steve Ritchie last October @ Expo, he has now
hooked me once again. Kudo's!
The man is good. I give im dat.

Good god, if only the construction was better.
I feel like I am playing a "paper-mache toy."
More later perhaps.
Maybe.

Love the game.

Love this. Also acceptable would be "Sears build quality".

All kidding aside, I was able to play ST at the Done Right Inn (downtown, Queen St. West) a few weeks back. Granted I was unbelievably bombed, but was still impressed with how far Stern has come as compared to, say, Iron Man. I'd say IM tops my list for most enjoyable machine to play of this modern Stern era, however the art is MS-Paint cheap and everything seems hollow and built from aluminum. ST seemed way more chunky and "whole". Great art package too. Still no 90s Williams, but those days are long gone I'm afraid, unless JJP or Planetary can raise the bar. Ritchie made a fast and fun game...who doesn't like combo-ing a maze of ramps? Great dots, too. So, for once, I'm lauding Uncle Gary and his team for stepping up.

Ah the dead horse....People have been complaining about Stern's quality since the beginning. My HUO Spiderman, LOTR, and TSPP look as good as the day I got them. I've seen HUO examples of Shrek, IM, Batman, and more. All look perfect. And function without issue.

I have to admit I'm looking at ST Pro and tempted. Currently getting a NIB ST Pro is about the same as the price of a HUO Tron and less than a HUO IM. Combine that with the silly prices of Williams/Bally titles, I'm starting to think. Going to wait and actually play the game PLUS wait for the code to be completed. I have to admit I'm excited to hear there will be custom voice work.

Cheers,
Duane

Lots of us who complain about Stern quality actually do own new Sterns.
I do like mine and I am happy that new games keep coming out.
I will likely keep buying some new Sterns as time goes by.

I played ST, MET, TF, and Avatar each for2-3 games @ SB yesterday.
I like them all.

My ACDC and Xmen won't be going anywhere anytime soon either.
Both are great games.

It just doesn't feel the same as playing a Bally/Williams DMD
from the mid-90's and I suppose that they really never will.

I would not trade Shadow, STTNG, TOM, IJ or WH2O for any
new Stern though. (but, I am getting old and sentimental)

That is why Bally/Williams command the attention, price
and hype that they do. They feel right, and they play
like they are the best in a home environment.

If I owned pins to put on route though, I would only put
out newer Sterns. Makes good business sense.

I am sure Duane, that "Twilight Zone" knows this very well. lol
Wasn't your most recent aquisition a B/W from the mid-90's?

In the end, one day I am sure I will have a new Star Trek by
Stern. I will really enjoy it when the day comes.

I am just not rushing out because I have to have one "now"
which would be the case if I could locate a nice TOTAN.

LOTR, Tron and many others are on the list one day too.

That is all.
Cheers.

I agree it doesn't feel the same just as a Bally EM doesn't "feel" the same as a Gottlieb EM.

I personally don't feel Sterns feel "cheap" which is the common complaint. My LOTR feels as solid as my TZ and STTNG. TSPP is a marvel. So many ramps. The mini playfield is awesome! Such an amazing layout and the rules. Man, the rules on both LOTR and TSPP are miles ahead of anything produced by Williams.

You are right that my last purchase -- cann't wait to get it :) was a Bally/Williams. It's not a game loved by everyone, but it's a favourite for me.

Cheers,
Duane

Here is where Brewmanager is far ahead of the rest of us.
His basement lineup is awesome, and you just can't do better
for 5 pins for variety IMHO.

LOTR, TSPP, HS and Roadshow. Plus his 60-1 and my ACDC on loan.
I love walking down there and playing the diversity.
3 new Sterns to boot.

My point is that I doubt Walt would currently replace any of them.
If he did, (to make space) my ACDC would come to my house, and
here it is...

I would bet money Walt would pick the new Star Trek if money
was not the object.

Fr*ck. Now I want Star Trek.
Thanks Duane.

I still need to spend more time with the game, but I like what I've played the one or two times I've had a chance at it. Not sure if I want to get burned again by "there's a code update coming" though. X-Men cleaned up nicely, but it was a long ride...

The beauty is time is on your side. Unless you want an LE, there is no reason to buy now. Wait and see what you think of the game once the code is done. There will be plenty of Premiums and Pros for a while, so why make a decision now? In the meantime, the price of Bally/Williams games keeps going up, so if you have to sell something -- all the better to wait and see.

Cheers,
Duane

Very true-I like the look of the premium more than the LE anyway, and then there's the question of whether the pro is the better value. Not sure that the LE/Premium adds much to the gameplay here.

If I was in the market for a new Stern I would probably go Pro on this title. I've played it and the LE and I could live with the differences and the extra $3000-3500 cash in my pocket
