Re: MB for sale

Just for reference to everyone reading here, Drano and I have both played this exact MB in Montreal.
Sylvain is the owner/seller of this machine, and the pin is as he described.

Drano, Menace and myself have all purchased pins from Sylvain in the past.

All the best with the sale.

Re: MB for sale

There are other non licensed B/W games that are in great demand like AFM and possibly CC. Monster Bash features some Universal Monsters including Creature from the Black Lagoon, Wolfman, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula and The Mummy. See how long it took for them to finally repro a CFTBL hologram? Licensing is one less hurdle for PP which means quicker production turn out to flood the market and put money in their pockets.

Anyways, let's help keep this for sale thread on track and going to assist and link the pics from his kijiji ad to make it easier for people to see.

Here are pics from the seller's gallery that show the wear he mentioned on the playfield

Same reason IJ cabinet art has been so hard to find. The license period for that title ran out long ago. Paying the new fee to Lucasfilm (now Disney) to reproduce the game or any of it's proprietary parts would kill you before you even got off the ground.
Certain licenses would just add way too much cost for the manufacturer.

All of the original themes, like MM, AFM, CC and so on, were developed by Williams and remain their property. They can do whatever they want with them without having to ask for any 3rd party approvals; as Mike pointed out.

Although Universal probably wouldn't charge as much as Disney for such an old license, chance are super slim we'll ever see MB repros.

If you are reproducing a small part of a machine like a decal, then yes, the licensing would kill the deal.

If you are reproducing the entire machine for a MSRP of $7999, the license is completely attainable.

Hell, Stern manages to do it several times a year, and sell games at $5k.

There is no reason to think that PPS cannot or will not pay the licensing fees for future repros that would sell.

Yes, they will do MM and AFM first, no doubt.
But if there is a demand, they will also do MB and others.

For arguments sake, say the license per game would be an (exponentially exaggerated) $1000.
Even if PPS tacked that onto the MSRP, people would be lining up to buy a NIB MB for $8999. ;)

Re: MB for sale

Possibly.
But I believe they would rather follow the path of least resistance. Adding an extra $1000 to their price only turns buyers away... and I'm sure they're hard at work trying to figure out how to get more of that money into their pockets after they seemingly underpriced MMR. Rick must've been kicking himself when he realized they were way oversold within hours of the announcment at $8K per game!

I heard some stupid numbers regarding what Lucas originally wanted for IJ licensing. Can't recall the exact figure, but it was nuts. Others may not be nearly as bad and it's not out of the realm of possibility... but why bother with all the negotiations, legal BS and the fees if you don't have too?
