It's hitting something on the way up that is causing it to rattle around.

Make sure that the plunger that is sending it up is mushroomed or damaged in some way. Also make sure that the ball is sitting in the correct spot when it kicks, if there is any wear to the assembly and the ball isn't sitting in the right spot, say there is some wear on the left of the right, it will cause the ball to not kick up properly.

Those would be my guesses.

Hmm, I'll see if I can take the coil off later today and see what's going on with the rubber pad.

Thanks!

If there are any further suggestions from anyone, please let me know.

Yep, it's something mechanical for sure. Either the ball isn't sitting right, the wireform isn't quite right over the VUK, or there is an issue with the sleeve / plunger. One other thing to consider, if you took the vuk assembly apart at all, maybe the wrong spring on the assembly? (too strong) Shouldn't be too much to get sorted.

Thanks for the tips guys, first off, there is no spring at all, never had one (recommendations?)

Secondly, it's no secret that I need a new ball cap: http://mad-amusements.com/product.php?id_product=1575

But, based on the photos, what else would you recommend I replace?

Things I have noticed:

The coil does not sit flat, not sure if this is an issue. (See second last photo.)
The sleeve is chipped.
The plunder is chewed up at the top, not allowing the ball cup to sit flat.

Not having that plunger cap sit flush will do it, so you'll most likely have to replace it. You could try to sand down the top of the plunger to clean it up an get it flat. You'll also want to replace that coil sleeve which could also help resolve this issue.

Ok, thanks guys. I'll have to order a few things from Pinball Life instead as there not available from Mad.

Why you would order from Mad before you ordered from PBL is another discussion all together :p

Terry is awesome and has amazing customer service.

Mike Ducker is a horrible business man with horrible customer service and should be put out of business. Personally I'd sooner not have a part I needed then order from Mike Ducker.

Agree with Adam on MAD, but unfortunately he sometimes has stuff that nobody else does. In this case though... please order it from anywhere but MAD. Terry @ PBL usually gets my first order, then it's a toss up between Steve @ PBR or Rick @ BAA, and then Marco / Playdium, and the rest go down from there.

Playdium will have the coil sleeve for sure, you might get lucky with the plunger but at the very least I'm sure they could order it for you.

I know guys, I've heard all kinds of stories about MAD and I'd love to avoid it as much as possible, but they are the only place that has 99% of what I need all in one place, otherwise I'll be placing 4 separate order and different retailed like PBL and BAY and Marcos .....

Hmmm.
That coil does not look stock.
Seems this game has had some work done to it ;)

Hope you sort it out. I've been re-assembling mine for the last couple of months LOL!

Ahh, I see the # now under the rest of all that gobbly-gook. It could be correct and the other # above it might be another Mfg part# that is the same. (like a stern or DE# which is kinda what it looks like)

You would be correct! That coil should be an AE-23-800.

http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=666

And I've confirmed you'll want the 2-1/16" flanged coil sleeve for it.

D

Are you sure this is the right sleeve? The manual says I need: P:N 03-7067-5

1-7/8" (measured from inside of flange) coil sleeve with 3/16" flange, used on many Bally, Williams, Data East, Sega, Stern & Gottlieb games. 03-7067-5, 545-5709-00 & Gottlieb 25605
Replacement for 03-7067-3

Unless 1-7/8" + the 3/16" flange = 2-1/16" total? My american math aint so great

Yea, that part# references the 2-1/16" sleeve I gave you the link to. (That part# is listed on the page description)

Easy to figure. 7/8" is also the same as 14/16". If you add 14/16" + 3/16" you get 17/16"... which is essentially the same as 1-1/16". If you add the whole 1 you already had, you're at 2-1/16" voila :p

No more math today please.

Occupational hazzard. Everything we make at work is built in inches.
