Went and saw that Getaway that was listed for 2500 last week in Cambridge. It seems the usual suspects were telling the seller that its worth more sight unseen so the seller decided in the end to pull the ad and re-assess its value.....
Now the seller is looking for 3K firm.

So here is why I left it there. All the black cabinet bolts are rusted on the bottom cab. It seems they are cleaning up the basement from a small flood, carpet was removed etc. It played fine some broken plastics, cabinet was in good shape other than the damage under the front lip and one of the back re-enforcing bars with the feet that was smashed. Overall there were hints of moisture. little rust here etc, under playfield looked nice the galvanized parts were still shiny from what I could see. Playfield was dull, no mylar except at bumpers & slingshots. Top outhole worn, but the biggest deal breaker was the 2-3"x1.5" of damaged playfield just above the right slingshot. It looks like water damage / swelling of the wood where the paint has cracked along the grain. Back cabinet key did not work so I could not inspect the back cabinet.

Is it worth 3K? Not to me. Maybe I am picky. So anyone who contacted her, have at it.

Nope, with that kind of PF wear I'd say no way 3K. And if you couldn't get in the backbox who knows what the driver and MPU look like... trouble is SOMEONE out in Kijiji land would likely give him close to his asking if not the full 3K these days. Silly...

I have wanted one for a while just never seems to be. It was hard leaving this machine there as i had 2 hours of driving in. But I think it was the right decision.

Oh yeah I also notice the dmd was faded in the bottom right corner as well not bad but noticeable to me.

Yep, I finally bought one a couple of weeks ago so I expect there will be dozens of them come up at great prices now.

SPEED, PRICE, CONDITION.... pick two :p

Sometimes it's just better to wait. There are few titles that NEVER pop up locally. I've seen just about everything come up at one point or another. Just gotta be ready to pounce.

I think that's the key right there, "ready to pounce".

There must be guys that come to work (in a vehicle big enough to haul a pin) with a pocketful of cash, just waiting to pounce....

Lots of ambulance chasers out there for sure. Sometimes just looking for a deal to flip unfortunately.
Plenty of guys work from home or have flexible schedules and keep cash on hand.
They'll even set up a custom script that sends them immediate notifications anytime a pinball machine pops up on any of the usual sites.

The best approach is to try and get these games before they hit the market.
Also, having good friends watching out for you helps a lot too... as you can see in Mike's pic on the LOTR thread.
I totally rememeber that night and Mike seeing the LOTR LE pop up for sale. McMean had been hunting one aggressively for a while but he had gone to bed. Mike did everything possible to secure it for him while he was fast asleep.

Nice surprise to wake up to.

That's passion for pinball! I'm sure Mike will find me a LOTR, since he's already found a couple of machines for me! Hopefully it'll be faster than 3 years!

I was emailing the seller but couldn't come to buy it on Saturday evening. I offered a deposit but he took $2500 for it that night. No fault to the seller I understand first guy with cash in hand should be it.

Todd, next time you are interested in something around me (North York) call me and I will check it out for you and pick it up as well. You just have to come to my place to pick it up at your convenience.
