Wedge head- I totally agree with you. (I guess I'm kicked outta the club too)

I've sold a game at a good price before. It was for what I paid for it, not including any upgrades I put into it. I wanted to get into this hobby with good karma and didn't care to make a buck off anyone. Within weeks the same machine resold for almost a grand more. That kinda made me feel like a tool in this unknown world of pinball. Since then I've never made a profit of a game, but my costs in parts and in time are considered when selling a game.

Kijiji is a horrible place to meet and deal with people. And it's fine for collectors to happily trade amongst yourselves, but for the rest of us that are new to the hobby it's all we have to deal with. Almost everyone on kijiji will immediately try to talk you down 25%. Then there's a lot of overpriced games from commercial vendors on kijiji that new guys to the hobby think are priced well. Even a lot of for sale adds on pinballrevolution are a couple hundred bucks more for the same machine on kijiji. (Welcome to the club).

If I was outbid on a "done deal" then I'd be pissed off too, damn right I would be mad. I probably wouldn't deal with that person again. But the chance of finding an honest buyer or seller on kijiji is a craps shoot. I've had "done deals" before with people not showing up, that's just as furiating.

Take it for what it is but I remember a great line in the movie " Scarface " . Tony Montana ( played by Al Pacino ) turns to Alejandro Sosa
( played by Paul Shenar ) and to reassure Sosa of his commitment , Tony Montana say's " All I have in this world is my word and my ball's and I don't break them for no one " . So in other words, if you are a buyer and make an offer and then change your mind , man up and call the seller right away so that they can continue to sell the item . And if you are the seller, than once a firm price has been agreed upon and a pick up time has been reached, then a deal has been made . Don't go back on your word. Don't start taking higher offers from other callers. If someone calls, then let them know that the machine is on hold and sold pending pick up. Take the callers name and phone # and let them know that you will call them in the event the deal does not go through. Be a man of your word on both sides of the deal.

Right and at the end of the day, I just wish more people on buy and sell sites had some integrity.. The particular deal I was talking about, I was already half way there and left a family function early to make it happen. So yeah, I was pissed.. At the very least, the seller should've given me the chance to match the deal -- I'd have still told him to go **** himself mind you (because homey don't play dat) but I'd have probably worded it a little nicer. :D

Anyway, whatever... Karma is a bitch. ;)

@REVOLUTION. Too funny. You hit the nail right on the head. And I too had the same thing happen to me. Go to the bank to get the cash in the morning , drive an hour and a half to the GTA area only to have the seller text me and tell me its sold. Ans this was a deal that was agreed too in the morning. So it wasn't like I was picking up the pin a week later. Douche bags are everywhere. Even in this great hobby unfortunately.

cdnpinballer I don't know how you would feel if you struck a verbal agreement with a seller to buy a game for an agreed upon price, make arrangements to get a vehicle for transport and take a day off only to get a message the day of saying sorry but someone offered me a little more money if you still want it you have to match or tough luck. Even worse what if the seller doesn't even have the courtesy to give you advanced notice and pulls this crap when you show up to his door. This has happened before to some of my friends in the past and trust me it sucks when you drive 6-8 hours one way to find this news out and even worse you give in because you don't wanna go home empty handed.

I think you are missing the whole point and it has nothing to do with the extra money and more to do with seller not honouring his word. Clearly if he wasn't happy with only getting $7200 for his STLE he wouldn't have listed it for that price or sold it to the first person who contacted them via kijiji. It just happened that he grossly undervalued his game and I'm sure everyone who inquired probably knew that. When they were told the game was sold to someone else for full asking they probably made a subtle comment or maybe an outright offer they would paid $X more on top of asking. At the end of the day it's the seller's game and they are free to do or sell it to whoever they please.

A good friend of mine inquired the day the STLE listing came up for $7200 but was too late and seller told him it was sold... likely to mstellato as you read above. Then the following day I see the same STLE re-listed for $8000 and I told my friend but he didn't bother as he didn't want to get caught up in a bidding war especially when he is located in Ottawa. Even though my friend didn't get this STLE I did help him secure another pin that has been on his wish list which was Austin Powers. He was even more shocked that I found him a nice HUO example the same day after telling me he wanted one too. I haven't earned this "enabler" title over the years for nothing and when I help put a deal together it almost always goes through 100% and nobody's time get wasted.

WTF? I was telling the guy that this behavior is considered unethical and he was going to get flamed for saying otherwise?? Did you read my post?

Sadly ethics and money seldom mix.

I got offered a better trade deal the day after I reached agreement with Aurium on TSPP.

Aurium has it now. Keep your word people.

Besides, I think I like Terminator 3 more than the Getaway now anyways. Too funny how things work out.

My mistake cdnpinballer and thought you were being sarcastic and supporting Wedgehead's comments by implying our community here is full of flamers and this:

Since you own and will never sell your High Speed grail I don't think a Getaway would last very long anyways. I think Terminator 3 is a fun game with some very satisfuing shots. The only thing I wish you could do was disable the annoying and repeatative Arnold "Shot heah" and "Shoot heah" call outs.

No problem. Anyone who comes on here condoning that kind of activity should have their flame suit on and tightly zipped! ;-)

If I am selling something and people offer me significantly MORE $$, I am going to sell it to them.

Seriously, if someone offered me $800 more on a machine after a deal has been made, I would call back original buyer and see if he understands that I cannot pass it up this offer, or see if he will come up a bit in price to make the trade off reasonable. Most reasonable people will understand that a few hundred more on a machine is hard to pass up.

Let's not forget that these people on here that harp on about "community", go to shows and buy machines, fix 'em up and then try to derive maximum profit from these machines. They are not there to give you a cheap deal. Nothing wrong with that at all, but trying to chastise the average seller who wants to make his money back on a machine, or perhaps a bit more

Well you're going to pay top dollar for your machines if this is your attitude. When we absolutely HAVE to deal with buyers like you (this is rare, there are plenty of moral buyers/sellers out there, and they are known), there is a saying that is used. "Make sure you don't leave any meat on the bone for that guy".

Perhaps you don't realize it but you will be charged and premium, and a steep one at that by anyone who is aware of who you are and your tactics. I'm talking at least 10-20% higher than what the good guys pay. If you deal in these machines in any quantity I can assure you that being known as a moral buyer/seller will get you way further ahead financial with the deals you'll be privy too than the peanuts you'll make selling your garbage on kijiji the way you've described.

Secondly, perhaps you've never really "fixed up" a machine. The time, effort, and cost that goes into these machines is significantly greater than any minimal profits that are made by the guys who do it right and really care about this hobby. If you really crunched the numbers you'd realize that 95% of the time the "fix it up" guys are compensated less than minimum wage for the work that they put into these machines. Especially when it comes to the really nicely done examples.

Your problem is that by the time the machine makes it to the bottom feeders like you've described in your posts, premiums have been charged all the way down. If you think you're at the front of the line for any games or deals, you couldn't be more wrong. Anything that you could possibly get your hands on has been viewed and turned down by dozens in front of you, for significantly less. Think about it.

That line from scarface is similar to the one my Dad drilled into me - "You are only as good as your word. It is the only thing that nobody can take away from you - except yourself". Word gets around in a small hobby community. I have personally black-listed 2 members of the community that I know I would never deal with again for breaking their word on deals.

Exactly, if you make a deal stick with it and dont screw guys over, same goes if your buying a machine. I've had lots on the other end who you make a deal with and they dont show..

Thats why dealing on forums like here is better.

I'm in the "you make a deal, stick with it" or if you need to renege for personal reasons, get on your knees and beg for forgiveness and/or pay for your mistake. I think that accepting a deal and then reneging if you get a better offer is simply greed, greed, greed - they probably voted for Rob Ford for Mayor too. If one posted a price they would be happy with, they should be happy to get it. Be even happier because if you discover you underpriced, because you 1) learned a valuable lesson, 2) you helped make someone else's day, and 3) someday your kindness may be repaid.

I'll die poor but happy that I made someone else happy any day (god knows - based on the amount I have lost on machine sales, refurbs, glass deliveries and parts sales... I must be the happiest pinball junkie alive!). ;-)

If I am selling something and people offer me significantly MORE $$, I am going to sell it to them, UNLESS, I have made a 100% deal with someone who is coming at an agreed upon time/date. I have sold over 700 items on Kijiji over the past few years to make some extra $, and 75% of people never show up, the ones that do, 50% will try to haggle on an agreed upon price. Why on Earth in a free market would I sell something for less than I can make more on it?
Seriously, if someone offered me $800 more on a machine after a deal has been made, I would call back original buyer and see if he understands that I cannot pass it up this offer, or see if he will come up a bit in price to make the trade off reasonable. Most reasonable people will understand that a few hundred more on a machine is hard to pass up. I don't you know about you, but I am not rich, and a few hundred dollars more takes precedent over some supposed deal that almost always falls through with buyers who suddenly renege, don't show up, or don't return e-mails after a deal is made - and that IS the majority of them.
Let's not forget that these people on here that harp on about "community", go to shows and buy machines, fix 'em up and then try to derive maximum profit from these machines. They are not there to give you a cheap deal. Nothing wrong with that at all, but trying to chastise the average seller who wants to make his money back on a machine, or perhaps a bit more, is rather myopic thinking.
Still, if a deal has been made, I would try to keep up my end of it, since I am a person of my word.
I guess I hit a nerve. I seem to have an uncanny knack for that. Why would you sell it for less when you are able to make more on it? You determined your own selling price. You chose that initial price because you would have been happy to get that amount for said item. If someone phones you up and offers you $200 more on the item and it hasn't had any offers yet then I have no problem with that. They want to give you more, then take it. However, if you already accepted offer and then someone phones you up and offers you $200 more that's where I have a problem. You have already verbally agreed to a deal. Reneging on that contract tells me you have no morals or integrity.

Oh, and for the record I sold my comic collection on Kijiji for $400 even though someone offered me $600 for it. I bought my first pin with that money.

Frustratingly enough, this is the very one I was on my way to pick up for $200... I got a text literally on my way saying "sorry, the game sold to someone else". At least now I know who the "someone else" is.

is that not the same machine that just resurfaced at a much lower price again?
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-toys-games/m...75/1111614588?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

if so i hope noone offers more than 150 for it... more often than not these high bidders never do show up with their offers of cash.
