Think this is legit? I posted a want ad on Kijiji for a Dr. Who and within a couple hours a guy contacts me about an ad being posted on kijiji in Alberta for the same machine. Then he tells me he owns a shipping company and would be willing to go check out the machine for me and help with the shipping to Ontario. Very fishy.

The wanted ads are getting hit up by scammers quite a lot these days in GTA especially.. Also lots of too good to be true ads out there. They've upped there game too, it's not just emails anymore, you can actually get some of these guys on the phone now to talk and or text direct. But 99% of them aren't legit and always want you to "send" deposit or something along those lines.

That was what I was thinking. Not unless I could find someone local that could check out the machine for me that was legit. Thanks for the opinion.

Another scammer I guess, but why do people do this?

Either:
i) they don't know and haven't done any research (very slim chance, but still possible), but probably would be quickly corrected by the local pinball police (or someone lucky and quick just made a quick few thousand $). The description is quite detailed and personal. So maybe?

ii) they are fake/scam. But how does this work? Is anyone really that stupid to buy a pinball machine by EMT'ing or Western Union the $$$?

I just saw that TSPP ad s few mins ago. I thought about resonding to it but quickly realized that there is no way that thing is going for that price. A lot of weird ads lately.

Hundreds of desperate people see it and it doesn't cost the scammers anything. If they get some overzealous pin hunter to slip up and bite then it's pure easy profit. Even if they just get a hold deposit or anything really. Just report it so others don't get scammed and move on. No way someone is that knowledgable about pins and doesn't have the slightest clue what it's worth. Plus it's copied from a pinside ad.

So that makes it even more confusing. Ad is still up, 330 people have seen it already. If the guy was looking to scam why not answer your emails and say yes, or is he looking for long distance pay first types or hes fishing for more? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

I would also care to guess that if he is trying to scam in some way, having someone willing to come out and see it with cash in hand is not the best scenario for a scam .

I sent him a message and he said someone had offered him 1800 and they sent a deposit of 1000 on it. I told him it was worth way more and he told me to send a deposit on it and he would take down the ad.

I knew it! thats the scam, get a deposit! 1800 bucks! What an idiot! rips off the picture from a guy whos selling it for over 6k Canadian! and he says someone offers him 1800! Should have at lease said $4k then asked if you could beat that offfer or just left you hanging to make an offer and then hes got you engaged, then tell you since I got others you can send me a deposit. I also noticed he's selling jays tickets, too. Another item that people sell as a scam!

Run away, run really far away!

So Aunt Agnes already linked the ad to a pinside pin in balston spa ny with text cut and pasted verbatime,

Here is the same seller on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stern-The-S...sh=item1ec958b950:g:tVwAAOSwvjdZQyfE#shpCntId

5500 0n ebay (10% fee added) and 4800 USD on Pinside.

lastly the fact its been up for 2 days is telling. Anything that hot is gone in hours.
