So, the rumour mill has sort of started and I've read in one of JPOP's private blogs that there may be an announcement at EXPO this year regarding Pat Lawlor's return to pinball. No more detail I'm afraid.

Any speculations or other inside info?
Wonder if he's going to go hook up with a manufacturer, one of these P-ROC game developers or even do his own boutique thing like JPOP and others?

Hmmmm. As a big PLAW fan, I'm very excited to see how this plays out.

Jersey Jack has to bring on more teams if he wants to be a true competitor. They can't just produce a pin every 2 years. It would make sense that a new team would start work there and Lawlor would be a good match.

I'm with Chris on this one. Having PLD team up with JJP (I cannot see Pat going to work for Jack directly) makes sense, especially where Pat apparently owns the building that JJP produces all his games in.

Another stop-n-go snoozefest?

No thanks, we already have enough Lawlor pins

I'll admit that I sometimes get tired of how Pat repeated his signature design elements... but I'd rather have Lawlor back in pinball in any capacity.
One could easily say that we also have seen enough generic fan-based "flow" layouts. And God knows that Steve Ritchie/George Gomez and others have not shown us anything new in years (except for maybe Avengers... and the jury is very much still out on that one).

I suspect he has enough fans out there that would welcome a new design. Hell, if John Trudeau joining Stern can make news...

If you truly want to see a Lawlor design shine, he'll have to go with Jack. It pains me to say it, but I'm afraid Stern's pocketbook can't afford PLD's ideas anymore.

Isn't he working with Pro Pinball on an original virtual table?
Or did that get killed when the kickstarter failed?

yeah, kickstarter failed so no PL game.

Great to see...but still, we need some new blood in the design arena in order to move this hobby forward. I'm sure Lawlor's got some new, unique ideas, but you can guarantee anything "new" from him will include the old Lawlor signatures (orbit into pops, thru pops into orbit, third in-lane, cross playfield ramp return, etc., etc.,).

Lawlor is certainly an auteur...an auteur being an artist who repeats the same ideas over and over again in a way that produces the illusion of something new and unique.

It's sort of funny to me, in a warped way, that jpop in his 40s is still the "young gun" amongst pinball designers.

It would be neat to see another game featuring talking heads like Rudy, Red or Ted but given the way Stern has been increasing their prices I can only imagine what a Twilight Zone or Roadshow would cost today.

hmm.... jpop wouldn't have thrown that out there for no reason. I wonder if it's something crazy like PL is going to design a game for zidware?

PL doing a zidware game isn't that crazy an idea, is it? If nothing else, money would be no object in that case.
