Safe to hook up led strip lighting to game power supply?

In my Tales From the Crypt I've installed some black light led strips. I have just under 2 meters installed in the game and currently I have them powered through a standalone power supply plugged into the service outlet. They work great but any time the game is plugged in the light are on even if I'm not playing it. I'm wanting to just tap into one of the 12v lines coming from the power supply but I'm wondering if the extra load on the power supply would be too much. I suppose if it came down to it I could probably just wire the service outlet to only be live when the game is on but I'd rather not do that and I would like to get the arcade power supply out from the bottom of my cabinet.

Considering that two of them come to about 1 amp, and LEDs don't have much of a peak load, you should be able to tap into a 12 volt DC source without stressing the power supply.

Just be aware that UV light fades red-based pigments...and it's not terribly good for your eyes....

There are a few things you can do:

1) You can rewire the service outlet so that it only comes on with the switch. Here is a post on pinside with some information here:

2) Not sure if your TFTC has a spare 9 pin molex connector by your coin door for a dollar bill validator but you can check the wiring diagram and tap into there for 12v.

I think option #3 is the cleanest and safest way to achieve what you want to do and it is also fused too in case something goes wrong with your mod.
