Maybe they Stern are trying to create an effect of a ghost playing with the ball and moving it in and out like it is on a string during certain modes

I think the best scenario would have been to have regular slings with the magnets there to use in different modes.

In a perfect world I would agree, unfortunately with the magnet configuratoin under the PF there is no physical room to fit the sling mechanisms. (based on the under PF pics' I've seen)

Maybe he got a C&D from Stern.

You have to pay to watch the video... right after you order your custom laser cut siderails and pingraphics

The one with Ritchie playing looks like the slings are proper slings not magnets.

The magnet slings are a "feature" on the premium/LE models only and I edited my post to include "PRO". Another easy way to tell it is a Pro at first glance is the ramp exit on the right too or the missing right ramp cross over to the left flipper.

hmm, we'll have to see how the slings shape up, I think they will be cool, may not be something you want on every game but different features are fun.

I'd like to see how the slimer and goggles turn out too.

We have to remember this is just the first pass at early code for the magnet feature. It's not a finished product yet

I may be in the minority; but I think they look innovative and very cool. We have seen just a small sample of these in action. I have faith in the Stern folk to deliver us something unique and special. I can't wait to see full video and try them in person.

I think it could be a cool addition-it's taking something that was designed to add randomness to the ball, and making it even more random. Still looks like they have a ways to go, but at least they're trying something new. If nothing else, it means there could be a whole new set of skills you have to learn to deal with these types of slings.

Chris, I would tend to agree with you.
There has also been a fair amount of negativity on Pinside regarding the magna slings; and it seems rather unwarranted since none of these guys have either seen the full scope of those nor have obviously played the pin with them.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I think the premium/LE models are going to blow us away regardless.

Totally agree with you. People love to complain based on pictures and some video. I'm interested to see how they will work once coded. The price Prem/LEs are way out of my budget, but still curious.

Initially, I wasn't a fan of the right ramp, but I'm approaching it with an open mind and look forward to playing one eventually. The way the ball travels should slow the game down for a moment. Given how fast it seems to play, that might actually be a welcomed opportunity to access what's lit.

For those in GTA, you can try the right ramp in person today because I heard SB has a Pro setup in the showroom.

I can understand the negativity with magnet slings. If they don't act like regular slings and they end up adding randomness then its going to be a huge problem. I don't want randomness coming from the slings. If players start losing balls because it comes off the slings weirdly they are just going to be pissed and stop playing. If the magnets are just an add-on to regular slings where it only comes into play when you start a certain mode then I'd be ok with it. When I first saw the pics of WWE with that ring I knew right away it was going to be a dog. And it was. Could've been a decent pin if it was used sparingly, only active in certain modes. If Stern missteps with the magnets they could very well have another WWE. And it would be a real shame since it looks like this could be one of their best layouts in a long time. Having randomness added a couple inches above the flipper is just asking for trouble.

Hopefully I am wrong and they are implementing the magnets so they act like regular slings but I just can't see it being possible.

I'm sure the magnets will be part of a mode and not on at all times. They wanted to give it that "paranormal" feel to the game.

I'm sure it'll also have a setting that can be turned off (i.e. For tournaments).

Watch the video of it in action. I'm sure some people are thinking that some sort of "magnet" is replacing the sling completely. It isn't. It just works in conjunction with the regular sling.
