We had a 'eureka" moment.
We looked at a picture again of the stepper in player one position and asked a simple question, "Are both our switches closed?" Answer, "no, both open".....then the machine thinks its playing four players.
Someone must have taken the stepper apart and not put it back together the same way. The cams couldn't even come close to touching the switches to ever close them. Wouldn't have mattered what we did. Many attempts later by Jay to adjust the spring just right and we're cookin' with gas.
