We are all here for one reason or another, but the general consensus is that we are here because we love pinball.
The silver ball connects us, from man to machine and is the starting point that allows us to interact with one another.

I certainly had some interesting adventures in my first 3 years of "hunting and gathering" coin operated devices chronicled here.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10989

After 3 years of collecting, I felt that telling that Tale (for almost 2 years) had run it's course, at least in my own mind and heart.
The adventures continue...

Currently, I have been "hunting and gathering", selling, trading, doing some repairing, and even; (gasp) playing pinball lately.
It has led personally to a more well rounded (and sustainable) experience in this hobby from the sole purpose of purchasing.

This new thread will chronicle and document the new adventures, as well as the adventures from the past I had left out.
I feel that I can write about current events, past events, or future plans and present them it whichever fashion suits me.

I always document what I do in life, and I write what I think, what I do and how I feel about it.
I am happy to share that adventure for all who care to read, respond or participate.

More soon.

Cheers.
Salut.

Looking forward to following your new adventures Scott. I'm glad my own personal adventures are pretty much done and reached a state of contentment in my collection. I do miss the thrill of the hunt but I get to live that out through other people now.

Thanks Mike. I am looking forward to several other aspects of this hobby other than "the hunt" now as well.
Have no fear though, if you are just ending "the hunt" now, that gives me 18 months more before I have to cease...

I always believed this hobby was about playing pinball. Really. I mean, it is what got me going when I first found out I could actually buy one of these great machines to have as my very own at home. Imagine, no more having to depend on the owner/operator to fix that broken flipper, dislodge that stuck ball or simply clean the machine in hopes that that I could enjoy my Friday night of pinball at the bowling alley. No sir, now I could have 24/7 access to my own pin and make sure everything was 100%.

The bonus was that it could be much, much more than that. Creating a collection of pins - a hand picked selection by era, or style of gameplay or layout, by designer,... or by titles that are most nostaglic and bring back fond memories. Fixing and servicing for the handy... tinkering, tweaking games to be perfect playing, 'modding' with aftermarket parts; repairing, even restoring games bringing them back to life.

Then there's the camaraderie. You are not alone. Fellow pinheads online in forums to help and share with... more pinball enthusiasts in league play, tournaments both local, out of town and international. There's competitive play too, professional players even. Whodda thunk it! There are friends you make along the way, meet at pinball shows, and enjoy the company of at casual get togethers in your home arcade. The buying, trading, hunting for to buy... and then sell, only to buy again. All the while truly playing with your machines and that of your friends', not just admiring them. Not many hobbies like this.

Scott, looking forward to your 'new' perspective on pinball.

I agree with Barry above. He hits all the high points: playing, collecting, maintaining, camaraderie.

Also glad to see a new series of writings from Warlock on his personal growth in the hobby...with a new perspective. Now we just need to find an abandoned warehouse to rent out in the GTA to set up all of his games!

Thank you Barry.
As many already know, Barry is a fantastic pinball wizard, mentor and good friend in this very fine hobby.
Sage advice, a beer, a cup of tea in the kitchen, or the two of us in barefeet moving a pin upstairs in record time...
No real words for that, but many of us just "get that".

Many thanks my friend.
Many more adventures soon.

Cheer, salut; and something else....
I just can't define properly quite yet...

Yes, as you know my friend, Barry has it "on the mark" in this hobby. Spread your efforts out. Agreed.
And then, YES... "Space, the final frontier! These are the voyages of ... well, you all understand... Cheers.

I decided that I should write a short story every week.
I also think that they should be much shorter than the past.

The "world" seems such that we jump in and jump out of things quickly now.
This isn't the format that I prefer for writing, but I will try it for a little while and see.

So, I saw a member in December: (That may ryhme but not intended)
2 working pins "out" and 4 "project" pins "in". Yes, I know, that was not exactly the plan.
Sparky took 2 to assess and fix and I took 2 to do the same. (Yes, Sparky is the crazy guy in this story)
We are assessing them, and the 4 could easy be sold. No plans yet, and we always want to "save" and "restore".

Many more things to tell, but that recounts end of December activities.
Oh, and seriously, the new year has been so much fun so far, with more to come.

More soon.
Cheers.
Salut.
All the very best.

A moment of "clarity" occurred tonight. (in a flash)
I sold NBA Fastbreak back to a friend; for him and his son.
I cannot in good conscience rip-apart a decent pin to build another.
That is all.

I apologize to my poor neglected thread here and now.
The busier you are, the less time you have to talk about it.

Rest assured, I shall travel for the next few days; and update weeks of activitae later!

Yes, activitae!

Life, The Journey and Other Travel Adventures...

I have decided lately, that my "hobby" travel journey's are my own.
I will share what I am able to, if I am able to, and if I care to, regarding said adventures with others.

Those that know me well, know that I am not being rude, snipe or coy about my "serious pinball adventures".
Having said that, most who have met me; should know by now that I have changed the rules on how the game plays out.

I have changed how I behave towards this hobby. I have changed how I react to it. I have changed how I collect, and ah, play pins.
I am not saying it is good, bad, different... I am not savoring dinner over lunch over breakfast, just noting that there is a change now.

Some of us have 'changed' our gameplans, collections, and course of action.
I hope many of us 'think' about what is coming next for each of us on our own; in turn, in time.

I no longer would either wish to "speak" for anyone else, presume anyone's intentions, or preach, well on anything.
I merely look and hope to discover what this great little journey shall provide opportunity to "do" or "not do" next for us.

What great people I have met. What a great hobby I have chosen to pursue. What great things are yet to come. I feel it coming.
All the very best, live long + prosper and excelsior!

That is all.

Cheers.
Salut.

More soon.

I preach one day ago that I should "not" preach.
Today, so many options to do just that maybe.

Instead, I shall make suggestions.
Not my call after all. All da best.

In English !

Mike, A really simple example of what I am talking about is on your remote control thread.

I was not really intending for it to be a "who's on first post". Drano and I saw Wong do it fist, but like Adam says, Nick did it before, you learned it and saw it from Chris, it doesn't really matter.

Neat post, highly recommend the idea for many to do, but like Drano mentioned earlier, I personally want to turn them on/off myself.
Just personal preference. No biggie. Neat post. Cool little reminder. That is it.

My post led to further discussion, but I didn't intend that. I was stating a personal opinion, which led to further discussion on the thread,
but I struggle lately with "making content" without adding any real substance or real purpose to the discussion.

Hence my late night "haiku" discussion and reminder to myself after 12am. In this case "preaching" is merely stating an opinion on a thread. I am reminding myself to think before I post. That is all.
You wanted it in English, there you have it.

Drano would say "I think too much about it".
He is probably right.

I'm off to work with almost no staff in today! Sweet.
Time to do something and get at least one more pin on legs rather than talk about it.
Cheers.

It's all in good fun , absolutely no offence taken . I think as Wong told me we all kid each other now and then and I'm fine with it . As the going says " if you can dish it out you gotta take it " and I can take it. Enjoy and you'll be surprized with my new collecting style !
