Leaving the theme out of the discussion , what are your thoughts on the WOZ standard edition machine?

Playability, collectibility, durability ?

Heard of the issues with the machines early on when produced and wonder about the digital back glass?

Spend 8k on this machine slightly used or wait for TAF to miraculously become available.... hmmm?

The first run machines had light board issues, but that seems to have been sorted out, so reliability shouldn't really be much of a concern. JJP machines are also very solidly built, so you should be good there. Check whether the machine you're buying has the newer light boards, or at least get the production date. For an earlier run game, I'd ask more questions, but for a game built in 2016, you should be much safer.

As for gameplay, WOZ has a lot more to do in it than TAF, and these days you'll probably have to pay the same for each of them. Some people criticize WOZ for having badly balanced scoring, which is valid, but as an objective based game there are definitely a lot of things to do in it.
