Yeah no one likes a limp pop-bumper. I like to try and keep the ball in the pops as long as possible, usually to try and start the mode they're linked to. On otherwise fast games (like Iron Man) it's nice to have them just for the break! Although too many pop bumpers gets pretty tedious...

for a $2k budget, I'd go for a Data East / Sega game for sure. Bally / WMS game prices have sky-rocketed. $2k should land you a decent Rocky & Bullwinkle, Last Action Hero, maybe even a Jurassic Park... or that Starship Troopers Mike suggested. I love that game..
