I think we all miss the live auctions, but the reality is Playdium has come to realize it's in their best interest to go the on-line route if nothing more than exposure. (not to mention the ability to shill but lets not go there) The fact is they get WAY more traffic and eyeballs for the...
Yeah, if the lamps are lighting up when you ground the transistor it's not the bridge. (usually if the bridge goes it takes the fuse with it) I would definitely start with the connector from MPU to Driver for sure, especially where you've swapped in another driver with same result, and then...
Todd wouldn't be Todd if there wasn't profiteering involved. I still think his vids of tossing games off the roof was nothing more than a stunt to motivate the pin community to come and buy up all his shit games simply to save them from being tossed off the roof.

I've actually never worked on a sys1 yet, only sys80 but this controlled lamp symptom is weird as I was under the impression mpu and driver are all on one board for sys1? If the controlled lamps light up when you ground the transistor that to me indicates a logic issue up-stream. Where it's...
Oh you've got a V2 MPU... I'll be VERY interested in what Chas has to say about this issue. Would hate to find out there is an issue with the Xilinx QFP.

I just took a look at the MPU schematics as I questioned my PIA statement, and my gut was correct... Stern did not use PIA chips on their MPU. But I'm still certain the issue is on your MPU. Could be a bad PAL at U213... I can't recall if TSPP uses the same PAL as LOTR (I think so as only the...
At first I suspected a bad diode somewhere on the matrix, but your comment about the motor being triggered by sound call outs during Gollum MB led me to believe this was an issue on the MPU and swapping the driver with a known good one pretty much tells you the issue is on the MPU. I would...

Rob, get your hands dirty and fix it the right way as what you learn during the process will help you along the way with other repairs. Just be very careful when removing the BR, as there is a very small trace on the topside of the board that is easily broken and often times people...
Re: New Banzai RunjQuery182027633478255175203_1395330394388?
Claude,
I'm very glad to hear you have stopped oiling your coils, all of your machines (and future buyers) thank you. There is absolutely NOTHING in a pinball machine that requires ANY oil in home use. (the only odd exception would...
Re: New Banzai RunjQuery18206832678587023834_1395329051121??
If it is for sale, make sure you ask if all the coils were oiled. (this information is good to know before hand, as you'd have to clean it all off upon delivery)

Re-purposing is always good if you're pulling it from something unusable. Just be sure your existing glass doesn't have an internal short before replacing the UDN, or you'll ruin the replacement as soon as you power it up.

Yeah, the majority of my collection I have owned for a LONG time and for the most part are all keepers which I have never had any intention of selling. (I knew what games I wanted in my collection and worked hard to obtain them) On the rare occasion I do decide to sell something off it's...
No it is not, AAAAAAND if it is a bad UDN chip I wish you all the luck in the world trying to find a replacement. These are made of serious unobtainium. I did design and build a replacement using some discreet components years ago, but never made more than a few for my own purposes.
