Well we are moving into our 3rd year and we are implementing some changes and improvements.

Points: We will be implementing a new point system. It will be a percentage based system similar to what the TCPL use. This way everyone will get credit for their performance even if they are at the bottom.

Registration fee: There will be a $20 one time registration fee to join the league. This will build up the LOPL fund so that we are not running at such a tight budget. All monies will go back out to the players in the form of trophies, prizes, food etc and any costs to run the league like web hosting.

Host fee: The host fee will now be $10 per league night. This will not only provide incentive to potential new hosts it will better cover the costs of provisions and wear and tear on the machines. With the increased hosting fee we think it is reasonable to expect the host to kick back a minimum of $50 worth of provisions. The league will pull $40 out of the hosting pool to put towards the LOPL fund. So if we have 35 players then the host will get $310 and LOPL will get $40. After kicking back $50+ the host still clears $250+ for hosting and wear and tear on the machines.

Cheating: This has never been an issue in LOPL but anyone caught cheating will be banned from any IFPA events and leagues in Canada for a period of one year. Cheating is not taken lightly.

More pinball: We will be running about 10 normal league nights but we are going to try to add in a few funzie nights (with prizes) where we will do some different fun things like pingolf etc. And/or we will likely be running a few stand alone tournaments (like how the playoffs ran).

Guest passes: Any LOPL member is allowed to bring one guest per league night. They will only have to pay the $10 host fee. They will play the league as normal but their scores will not count. This way they can get a feel for the league and decide if they want to register. Or they can just register right away (pay the $20 registration fee and the $10 host fee. Scores count. They are a member this way, not a guest.). If there are any league nights that have a max number of available spots, members will get priority and guests will only be allowed if there are any spots left.

Playoffs and scoring: You will need to have played in 4 league nights to be eligible for the playoffs. Top 24 eligible scores will qualify for the playoffs. Your best 8 league scores will count towards your total score. (up from 4 last year).

Hey Mike, just to clarify the IFPA position on this:

The IFPA does not dictate the terms of who is, or isn't banned from any single event. If proper evidence is provided for cheating we will support the ban of a player from any event, so that it does not affect the IFPA Sanction, but it is up to the individual tournament/league directors/officials to decide if they would like to enforce the ban, not the IFPA.

Doors are open for all events. We have had TOPLers DRAPLers and TCPLers come to many outings.

If you are referring to the "must play 4 league nights to qualify for playoffs" border, not sure that rule will change.

As far as stand alone whole afternoon tournaments, we have only a few hosts that are able to even host that sized event and only 5 hosts in total (until recently) so current hosts were tapped out with just hosting the league nights. This year we will be likely adding 2-4 more hosts and may have more available options for running full day tournaments.

Yea but in the same way your not going to try and compete in TOPL League there is no reasonable way for us to compete in LOPL league and that's fine

I'd just like the opportunity to play in more local events that actually carry some weight :)

The league itself yes not so much but hopefully we can get some stand alone all day turnys going next year (charity or otherwise) that have some value and hope to get you and other TOPLers out! (Like the one Luch just hosted).

So LOPL officially began their third season this past Saturday at Speedy Mike's. We had a nice mix of classic EMs with newer DMD's, including an Iron Man VE NIB. A tremendous expression of interest with more than 40 people wanting to play! It appears that pinball is stronger than ever in London! :)

Scores have been posted to the LOPL site, and you will see that we have implemented a new point system that is percentage based similar to what TCPL uses. This way everyone will get credit for their performance even if you tank on a game or two (like I did on Tron  ).

Pics of the evening are posted on the LOPL facebook page here:

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 009&type=1

and scores here:

The date and venue for the next event will follow soon, so stay tuned!

Thanks Mike and Leslie for hosting 40 pinfreaks. We appreciate it. We are allowing for 48 next night. Crazy right? Pics will be posted tomorrow. Congrats/curses to Chris H from TCPL for top performance of the night! :p

P.s. don't think TOPL actuly uses this scoring format.

Last night's league night brought out 50 pinthusiasts to play Aaron's collection of games! Very impressive number and we continue to see new members at each night. Many more people are catching the pinball bug once they get a taste of the LOPL so the numbers are only likely to grow!

If you have any pics from last night please email them to Mike so he can add them to the LOPL Facebook page.

Next league night is at Darrell's place only 2 weeks away! Saturday March 7th. We are accepting 28 players max for each shift. Let Mike know if you are coming and what shift you prefer.

1st group arrives at 5 and plays at 5:30pm
2nd group arrives at 8pm and plays at 8:30

Last night's scores will be posted on the site shortly.

This is about two weeks too late (my bad) but the third night of the third season for LOPL was held on the third month at Darrell’s place. It’s great and exciting to see that we still get new faces out at almost every league night and we’re into our third season! Welcome to Pat B, Dominic L and Janet D, glad you could make it out! And thanks to Darrell, Mandy and family for being our gracious hosts yet again! The games that were set up to test our mettle were:

Haunted House

Road Show

Hollywood Heat

Demolition Man

Baby Pac-Man

Wizard of Oz

WOZ threw out an upper right flipper during the early round, but otherwise all games worked flawlessly and everyone had a good time. Randy ended the night on top (again) with a pair of Jeff’s in second and third (Jeff K and Jeff T respectively) with Julie in fourth and Joe Lem rounding out the top five. The scoring system adopted by LOPL this season is working well, keeping the standings a lot tighter and making the competition more exciting this year. High scorers of the night were:

Aaron A Wizard of Oz

Randy W Hollywood Heat

Steve V Road Show

Leanne V Haunted House

Mark I Baby Pac-Man

Mike T Demolition Man

The next league night will be at Mike Dymus’ place on Saturday March 28th and we’ll be running two rounds again. As of today, there is one early spot and one late spot left. Early slot shows up at 5:00 p.m. to start playing at 5:30. Late slot players are to show up at 8:00 p.m. to start playing at 8:30. This will hopefully alleviate any log jambs between shifts as Mike’s basement is a bit on the tight side.

We look forward to seeing you all then!

Last league night brought out 45 members and a couple guests. The LOPL seems to have at least one new member every league night. Membership is growing.

The new electrical held up and all machines were on at the same time for once and nothing blew up. All the machines held up as well surprisingly. Big thanks to Shaun Russle who sponsored the Tim Hortons donuts!

We had pinball enthusiasts come from far and wide including St Thomas, Cambridge, Strathroy and Toronto. (I'm sure I'm missing some too).

Results are posted here:

Top scores of the night belong too:

X Men: Shaun R

Spiderman: Aaron

White Water: Mike D

The Shadow: Brad P

World Poker Tour: Randy

World Cup Soccer: Ray

Some pics from the night are posted to the Facebook page here:
