That Shadow on the kijiji ad in Montreal is amazing! This was the Shadow that David C. (yellowmustard) redid.
He sold this last year at the Ottawa pinball show. When I talk about the "one that got away", this is that pin!

I already have a Shadow now, but if someone bought this one, I am sure they would be quite happy with it.
David did a great restore on that machine.

My good deed of the day is a public service announcement:

Beware of Detroit Craigslist adds.
Lots of scams and danger.
A friend of mine made the trip for a game and almost didn't make it out alive.

OK, this deserves a bit more explaining... If not for the story, for others safety!

Thanks for the warning! I have seen a fair number of fake ads in Detroit Craigslist but they are pretty easy to spot. Normally fake ads won't have any pics or consistent ones in the same settings, no contact phone # or priced stupidly low or high. There are deals to be had and I know in the past two years I have tipped my friend Kyle in Windsor on a nice IJ for $3100. I'm sure he will chime in on his experiences as he has bought a few pins for himself and friends from Detroit.

My buddy rented a truck and made the trip to Detroit for his first pinball purchase off eBay.
The seller had sent him pics and they agreed to do a cash sale.
When he arrived at the address he was a bit spooked by his surroundings.
Abandoned houses, sketchy area, the whole nine.

He decides to find the nearest police station (like any good Canadian boy would do) and ask for advice.
When he walks in, the cops are shocked to see him. He sticks out like a sore thumb in this area.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

He says he is here to pick up something he bought off eBay.

"A pinball machine?" the cops ask with a chuckle.

They inform him that a week ago, another fresh faced pinball enthusiast showed up at their station after just being robbed during a pinball deal in the neighborhood. They added that the police do not even answer calls in that area, it is too dangerous.
The cops tell him to turn around and go back home.

Having rented a truck and made the trip, my friend tries to reason with the seller.
He believed the pics to be genuine and the game to exist, and he really wanted it.
He phoned the seller and asked if they could do the deal in a public space because he was nervous about the neighborhood.

I think all members should be warned that Detroit pinball listings COULD be a scam to rob you of cash. I was just reading about a member who drove down to a 'seedy' part of town and at least was smart enough to go to the police station when he couldn't find the seller. The police informed him that he was lucky that he wasn't robbed, as others have been. If someone could find that story and link it to here, it might help others to be careful. I read a lot of stuff on different forums so let me say that I'm fairly sure it was Detroit and I think the story was posted here, or at Maaca, or Pinside. My memory is definately showing signs of age.
