I find if there's a pin I'm looking for, the best thing to do is let Mwong know.

Ultimately I couldn't care less what people do with their games.. but in such a small community when one does something to eipple the waters, one must be prepared for the consequences. Some people care, some people don't. In the end though, it's only pinball. I'm not in this hobby to get all stressed out.

It's like Rumplestiltskin - I went to sleep about 3 years ago, just awoke to realize that this person went from virtual obscurity to having his finger on the pulse of the entire Canadian pin sales world.

This hobby is like anything else. People offer things to their friends first, and then to the rest of the world if no one is interested. Nothin wrong with that if you ask me. Mikes focus is always on promoting this hobby for everyone's benefit.

Which is exactly the way it SHOULD be, and always used to be back in the day... Unfortunately given the climate of today's market this isn't as prevalent as it used to be. Thankfully most of the collectors look out for each other.

I think there is also a respect for better quality games within the collector community. Most guys including myself would like to see any nice games go to a good home where they will be taken care of. Most guys I know wouldn't want to just throw their nice games to some guy that's going to drill the front for a lock bar and put it on route if they can avoid it.

Sounds like you're running into the "other side" of the collector market Dan, which has seriously soured the hobby for me as well. I'm nowhere near as involved or as excited about the hobby as I once was due to how it has "matured". At least we still have a pretty good idea of who's worth dealing with.

Im probably upsetting people with this post, but its easy to see this in real life in all aspects.

Easy example... real estate. There are homes in my neighborhood selling well above what they should be, only for the fact that the market here is on fire. One neighbor sold his house, and literally 2 months later the new owners flipped it. No upgrades, no changes, just a straight up flip. They sold it for $12,000 more than what they bought. Now, the original neighbor (who I still speak to this day) was sour about his house being resold for more so quickly after the fact. The problem I have is he accepted the buyer he got, sold for what he was happy with and now they sold to someone else willing to pay more. The new owner, whether intentionally flipped or other personal reasons had a different buyer happy to pay the new listing price. Is this wrong? The original owner got what he wanted, but feels slighted because the next guy got more? Its a fallacy in itself, and it happens everywhere.

As a Realtor let me shed some light on this the "Flipper" of this house. They more than likely lost money. I would assume that a marital breakup, job loss or some type of family tragedy occurred to cause them to sell so quickly. $12000 wouldn't go very far at all. They paid approx. 1% land transfer tax to Province, more to the municipal govt if in T.O. and assuming 5% in realty fees to sell. If its a $250,000 house its $2500 in Land transfer tax, and $12,500 + HST in commission so they most surely lost. A house "Flipper" renovates and adds value. There are almost never "Flips" that involve buying and reselling without doing a thing at a profit unless you are holding a property for a long time.

Sorry that I wasn't born into pinball royalty like you Bally Boy but we all have to start somewhere. That's right I went from virtual obscurity to pretty much the main go to person when someone is buying or selling a pinball machine. What is wrong with me having my finger on the pulse on the local pin market? Is there anything stopping you or others from doing the same or is it because you only like to do things or help others when there is something in it for you?

I've helped countless people's games exchange hands between collectors in the past 2.5 years and never once expected any monetary return for the transaction. I get lots of PMs, emails, texts regarding machines for sale and people looking weekly. I also have a pretty good memory and that is how I have made so many deals happen for people. I do not dictate market prices and if a seller tells me this is their bottom line (crazy or not) I make sure I communicate that with the potential buyer before putting them in touch. I help set expectations to ensure a smooth transaction and neither side will feel like they wasted their time. There is a lot more machines exchanging hands behind the scenes then people know so don't know how it would affect the local market prices anyways. Honestly if I was to charge say $100 finders fee I could have almost half my current collection paid for.

I don't think it has anything to do with the "other side" Doug. It has more to do with "You get what you give" in this hobby and Bally Boy gives nothing Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that and there are lots of people in this hobby that do the same.

Wong is the man. He is one of the first people I heard about when I got into this hobby and he has been an absolute asset since. He can help you find almost anything and at a good price too. He will also look at pics for you and give you an idea of the machines current value, all on his own time of course which he doesn't charge for. I think of him as my pinball sensei. If there is one person with so much power I'm glad it's mike Wong. The two things I like most about mike Wong are number one, he doesn't hold grudges. He once gave me a really good deal on a pin and in all my noobism I spit in his face by telling him there was something wrong with it that's why he was giving me such a good deal :FP: . Mike was upset understandably so but he didn't cut me out, he still continued to help me even though I was such an ass to him. Number two, he's real, he doesn't pussy foot around things. If you over paid for something he will tell you you're a moron and should have asked him first. I second Wong for president

If you're on here trashing Mike Wong, you're wasting your breath. I doubt there's anyone willing to listen.
I'm one of the few that hasn't bought a pin through Mike but he has provided me with tons of help and advice time and time again with nothing in return.
