Not when they tack on a couple extra points on every sale. Not saying this is the case here but that happens all the time.

If a dealership purchases games at a 1.24 exchange then that is what the game should sell at. If the exchange rate goes up a month later to 1.28 then they charge you that rate plus a couple extra points.

That seems to be the reason for the USD quote IMO.

You don't see this in most other industries like vehicles, appliances, and other high priced goods.
Your senerio also works in reverse. What if the exchange rate goes down from the buy time to the sell time then the dealer loses money. Currency exchange is not a revenue source for pinball dealers.

Even selling at USD they are still taking the hit if the rate is down. Doesn't matter, they still lose money. What's the difference? Selling in USD does not protect you from the rate change when you are in a Canadian market and all your operating expenses are in Canadian funds.

They have to pay rent and other bills in Canadian so money has to be exchanged at some point.

I am not blaming the distros here. Stern is the one mandating this apparently. I just find it odd they force dealers to quote US pricing and aren't allowed to advertise Canadian price in Canada.

Selling in USD does not protect the distro from taking a hit if the rate gets worse after they have purchased their allotment of games at a better rate.

I appreciate everyone's comments and in the end is it a big deal? Not really.

More of a pet peeve and a curiosity.

Every product brought into Canada is priced in USD. Everything that goes into them is priced in USD.

Large companies like GM can set a CAD MSRP because they can hedge out risk. I used to do this personally for a few Canadian companies when I was a commodity and futures trader.

A small pinball distributor cannot do this and everyone in Canada faces some currency risk but if you charge the current FX, convert and keep USD in the bank it mitigates cost exposure. That's all there is to it.

I'm a small distributor and I can totally control my currency rates over time by doing a great job and working smartly with a variable dollar! That's exactly the kind of things that differentiates a great entrepreneur from a mediocre one!

I won't comment the policy of displaying USD for obvious reasons here, but believe me, an efficiently managed company will always be able to offer plus value to its customers and that's precisely what I'm doing all day long!

As far as I know even the main Nitro website are displaying all their prices in US dollars on their website. Are you calling your partner Tommy a mediocre entrepreneur?

Ideally having a website using daily updated CAD pricing is the way to go for the customers. Shopify and many other ecommerce solutions can do that quite easily.

Personally I prefer changing my currency using forex at barely any fees and pay in USD. I purchased from Nitro in the past and there was around a 3% conversion fee when paying in CAD.

Sounds like sour grapes Phil.

As the 'great' entrepreneur that you suggest you are, you should be able to comprehend policies and not try to subvert them. The correct way to do it is to list in USD, convert on day of sale at the market rate for USD:CAD. 'Working smartly with a variable dollar' has nothing to do with it lol

And while I appreciate your chest puffing in our thread, perhaps keep it to yours? Makes you look petty and desperate.

The Nitro website displays both prices in USD and CAD, it's totally false to pretend otherwise!

I have the currency set in CAD at the bottom of the page and other than the deposit amount everything is listed in USD… Nowhere its showing me how much the 9499.00 USD is in actual CAD. You only know on your final bill from Tommy when its time to pay the balance and there are some currency fees added (its not direct fx rate).

Everything you can purchase from the website is displayed in both currencies. For new machine, the only transaction you can perform from the website is a preorder or a reservation and those prices are listed in both currencies. For the rest, that's exactly the point, doing otherwise generates too much whining from "mystery" peoples!

By the way, just to set things straight, I never called anybody in here mediocre. First of all, I don't know anybody personally in here so I couldn't do that. Second, I was only replying to kool1 who was saying "Large companies like GM can set a CAD MSRP because they can hedge out risk. [...] A small pinball distributor cannot do this". That's not true and a lot of industries are facing this reality and they are able to figure out a way to have relatively stable prices. But a lot of entrepreneurs are not able....

Hope the point is more clear

I have only ordered NiB once and the six months waiting watching the exchange rate was grueling.
I love having new sellers out there
Hopefully that will reflect in some sort of competition that is good for buyers.
I know there were many out there that were not P1 fans.
Jerry came in on a Saturday and helped me load up.
With a selection on hand to play if not buy and their own repair dept and it's ability to order from US parts distributors will keep them damn near the top of the list for now.
The 2+ hour drive each way, I am not a fan of...

Now back to John Wick
I always need to play them first.

Well, damn, appreciate all the support guys!! Def not trying to spam just make aware for those who are interested in NIB stuff!

BTW if anyone is looking to try Wick, I'm going to hopefully have one at the Wasaga show on June 1st, pop by the booth and give it a look-see!
I'm thrilled Jeff and Mana Lounge are coming out to join us on Saturday, June 1st!

See everyone there!

If that is the case feel free to start your own thread offering new Stern pins in USD and/or CDN pricing then instead of commenting in a competitor's sale thread. Competition is a good thing and what's been missing all this time because it seemed Player One had a monopoly on new in box Stern pins.
