Your senerio also works in reverse. What if the exchange rate goes down from the buy time to the sell time then the dealer loses money. Currency exchange is not a revenue source for pinball dealers. Not when they tack on a couple extra points on every sale. Not saying this is the case here but that happens all the time.
If a dealership purchases games at a 1.24 exchange then that is what the game should sell at. If the exchange rate goes up a month later to 1.28 then they charge you that rate plus a couple extra points.
That seems to be the reason for the USD quote IMO.
You don't see this in most other industries like vehicles, appliances, and other high priced goods.
I would bet if every dealer could take the guarantee and not have to worry about the exchange +/- they wouldYour senerio also works in reverse. Every product brought into Canada is priced in USD. Everything that goes into them is priced in USD.Even selling at USD they are still taking the hit if the rate is down. Doesn't matter, they still lose money. What's the difference? Selling in USD does not protect you from the rate change when you are in a Canadian market and all your operating expenses are in Canadian funds.
They have to pay rent and other bills in Canadian so money has to be exchanged at some point.
I am not blaming the distros here. Stern is the one mandating this apparently. I just find it odd they force dealers to quote US pricing and aren't allowed to advertise Canadian price in Canada.
Selling in USD does not protect the distro from taking a hit if the rate gets worse after they have purchased their allotment of games at a better rate.
I appreciate everyone's comments and in the end is it a big deal? Not really.
More of a pet peeve and a curiosity.
As far as I know even the main Nitro website are displaying all their prices in US dollars on their website. Are you calling your partner Tommy a mediocre entrepreneur?I'm a small distributor and I can totally control my currency rates over time by doing a great job and working smartly with a variable dollar! That's exactly the kind of things that differentiates a great entrepreneur from a mediocre one!
I won't comment the policy of displaying USD for obvious reasons here, but believe me, an efficiently managed company will always be able to offer plus value to its customers and that's precisely what I'm doing all day long!

The Nitro website displays both prices in USD and CAD, it's totally false to pretend otherwise! As far as I know even the main Nitro website are displaying all their prices in US dollars on their website. Are you calling your partner Tommy a mediocre entrepreneur?
Ideally having a website using daily updated CAD pricing is the way to go for the customers. Shopify and many other ecommerce solutions can do that quite easily.
Personally I prefer changing my currency using forex at barely any fees and pay in USD. I purchased from Nitro in the past and there was around a 3% conversion fee when paying in CAD.
Yeah, giving what customers are asking for is really desperate!Sounds like sour grapes Phil.
As the 'great' entrepreneur that you suggest you are, you should be able to comprehend policies and not try to subvert them. The correct way to do it is to list in USD, convert on day of sale at the market rate for USD:CAD. 'Working smartly with a variable dollar' has nothing to do with it lol
And while I appreciate your chest puffing in our thread, perhaps keep it to yours? Makes you look petty and desperate.
I have the currency set in CAD at the bottom of the page and other than the deposit amount everything is listed in USD… Nowhere its showing me how much the 9499.00 USD is in actual CAD. You only know on your final bill from Tommy when its time to pay the balance and there are some currency fees added (its not direct fx rate). The Nitro website displays both prices in USD and CAD, it's totally false to pretend otherwise!
Everything you can purchase from the website is displayed in both currencies. For new machine, the only transaction you can perform from the website is a preorder or a reservation and those prices are listed in both currencies. For the rest, that's exactly the point, doing otherwise generates too much whining from "mystery" peoples!I have the currency set in CAD at the bottom of the page and other than the deposit amount everything is listed in USD… Nowhere its showing me how much the 9499.00 USD is in actual CAD.
