I stripped a bunch of wire forms and other small parts from my games for brass nickle plating to drop off at a local plating company. Drano had used these guys before for some chrome plating during his WH20 restore and Menace in recent months dropped some wire forms which he said turned out pretty good too. I figure since I was leaving for vacation the following week it would help me forget about the down time for a few of my games
I dealt with Diane at reception and right away she recognized them as pinball parts which was a good thing I guess.
She showed me a sample of what to expect for the brass nickle plating for my wire forms and parts which looked great. As well she showed me other sample finishes such as black nickle which I might try in the future for the Gun on my Shadow.
I dropped these parts off on May 20th and they were ready for pick up on June 4th, so about a 2 week turn around time which is how long it took for Menace's parts too. I couldn't wait to see how my TOTAN sword turned out and opened it on my way back to work during my lunch. Needless to say I got a few strange looks from the car next to me at the lights as I was waving it around in the air
Here are some pics of their work and will take more later once I get them all installed back in my games.
I'm quite happy with the results given the cost, turn around time and convenience of dropping and picking up my parts locally. This would have taken much longer and cost much more to send down to Mike Chestnut who is probably the best in the trade and the go to guy for high end restorers such as HEP. I'm sure Sun could do it but I would probably use Mike Chestnut for more specialized parts such as Demoman top handles, aprons, T2/STTNG shooters etc. He has done so many of them over the years and knows exactly how much prep is required for the best end result. I think for things such as wire forms and other small metal bits it is worth giving Sun Polishing a shot. If anyone wants to swing by and have a look are more then welcome to come by to look, play and have a beer.
