I have to ask, has anyone here played The Walking Dead (Premium)? I need a new game and I really like the dark Zombie theme but I am curious about gameplay and feel. I have seen a lot of mixed reaction online and it looks very challenging and fast-paced.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Played one at Starburst. Maybe it was old code but the call out were awful. They were not even from an actor on the show. It just ruined it for me.

The pin isn't tied to the show. If that's a deal-breaker, you'd have to download the custom code from someone on Pinside that has the real actors call-outs.
As far as the game itself, reactions are nowhere near as mixed as they used to be. The game stunk when it was released. Then Lyman dropped in some new code and now the game is incredible.
It can be frustrating, with pretty wide open outlanes, so you have to fight to control the ball almost all the time.
The way the game is coded, players work on building towards a multiball, then bringing in another one to jack up the points. When things line up properly, it's hard to keep track of all that's happening -it's awesome.
Most of the shots are pretty tight, so beginners won't find much flow to the game, but that will improve a little the more you play it. Then, making those tough shots is very rewarding. Cashing in on your "x" kill gives you a one-time shot multiplier, so after you've killed a bunch of zombies, and you decide to try your luck, you either miss an important shot and waste it, or you make a great shot, under pressure and rack up a ton of points.
Watch the PAPA tutorial by Bowen Kierans. That will help explain the rules and strategies.
Just don't expect that any of your games will ever go that well. Ever.

In my opinion, this is one of Sterns very best games to date. Likely to remain that way for awhile with the code that's been done. Lyman is a genius.

There seems to be a voice package available with quotes from the show. I heard that the stock voices were bad, but not a deal breaker given that it can be modified along with other software updates.
New Pins are a big investment, just trying to convince myself that this is the one I should get. Just starting to price shop now.

Chambahz, we were typing at the same time, I just noticed your post. I have been looking at many new pins and it is tough to decide, but am still leaning towards TWD.
The one thing that disturbed me alittle was the dreaded SDTM after ball release from the upper magnet. It seemed to happen regularly in many videos I seen.

Yeah, the magnet drain can happen. It's not frequent on mine, but the magnet is a known risk.
I find that a great game occurs from one or two really good balls -so I pretty much expect a cheap drain or poorly played ball to happen at least once every game. Sometimes two or three times even.

Nudging is a must and will often save the ball.

Personally hate this pin.
Never scored well, couldn't tell you if it even has multiball as I suck at it. Beyter off with transformers, xmen, star trek.
I know this may shock you but I found mustang more fun.

Played a few games last night with my wife.
Kicked our asses nearly all night.
Ball 3 of the final game, started with about 10,000,000
Ended up making a new Grand Champ score of 512,000,000 and made it to Horde mode.

If you don't get the rules, and can't string together a couple multiballs, it's easy to dismiss this game.

This game will kick your ass as soon as you let your guard down. There are many times I'll walk away from the pin with an embarrassingly low score and other times I'll walk away with my name on the high score list. I would like to think I'm an average player. I can hit shots when I need to hit them, but TWD makes me feel like a child when I play it and spanks me often (not in the pleasurable way).

As for the theme, I could care less about it. I don't get the fascination with zombies. Never have. The stock call outs have to be replaced. I played one of Pinhead's TWDs and it was incredible sound wise. Then I found another TWD at a cinema and the sounds made me want to throw up on the glass they were so bad. It was night and day for me. Get the aftermarket calls outs.

I like it, but I've only played maybe 10-12 games on them, so I can't really form a strong opinion. It's not as strong a first impression as GOT, but I gather that it's a game that has grown in leaps and bounds recently with the code. I'd like to give it another shot, but I don't see it as a game I'd own. Never seen the show (although the comics are great), and not really a pin that's great for a basement with my kids in it.

I'm not a fan of the theme but I've logged enough time on one that I really like this game. Ever since Lyman reworked the code it's a really really good game. I think the Premium is the best trim level of the bunch by far.

I have made up my mind that this is my next machine, now just have to find one in stock across Canada. I am waiting on one company that says they will have stock this week and if that come true I can "gett'er done".
For anyone reading that happens to be a dealer, feel free to chime in and grab that sale as I am in "waiting for stock" mode right now and open to possibilities.

You've made a great choice. This is an awesome pin that is both challenging and rewarding. My sons (age 10 & 11) absolutely love this game. None of us watch the show; but we really enjoy the Zombie theme. IMO this is one of Sterns best releases to date.
