Congrats! Been a long time coming eh?
I noticed that under the "for the" section is claims it's for an unheated garage... you are planning to heat this sucker right?
More importantly, when do you plan to break ground??!!

Never ever ever use the IRF, regardless if it's more commonly available or not, for the reasons I mentioned in my original post... unless you like to gamble. More often than not these parts will lock on and ruin coils, and burn up PCB traces. Just because a part *CAN* work in a circuit...
I've got a Star Light with Sys9 boards in it from the factory. Only one known to exist. It was only a rumor that some got made with Sys9 boards, but until I got mine there are no other documented examples that I know of.
Also have a super nice Star Gazer.

I'm not too familiar with the 6803 trough system, but the LED1 that you're covering up with your finger *could* be the "ball jam" opto which would be why the kicker is firing all the time when you block it.

Don't over think it... and always remember K.I.S.S. Start with the easy stuff first and work your way up from there. DE DMD's are notorious for having communication issues like this, it's just a nature of the design.

I'm going to assume that Checkpoint dmds are handled the same as all DE Dmds, in which case the DMD has its own mpu separate from the game mpu. DMD images are "called" from the main, and what you are experiencing is likely due to bad or interrupted calls.
I would start with the easy stuff and...
Awesome article. I can't help but wonder if Stern modeled their redesign around the pinballcontrollers.com set of driver/switch/lamp pcb's... seeing as they implemented the RS-485 protocol years before in their modular design.
Pretty cool regardless.

One of the most enjoyable seminars from Expo 2010 had Chris telling some great stories behind capturing some of our favorite games... This is awesome.

I agree. The pre-order investors would likely fall to the bottom of the list should John take this to bankruptcy. And my guess with the news out of the Skit-B camp today regarding the criminal investigation finding no wrong-doing, I can't see how there would be any criminal wrongdoing wtih...
I'm looking at it the same way Chris. They've got all the owners by the short and curlies here. They have two options, sign and shovel more money at this thing and pray it pans out or don't sign and walk away with nothing.
Tough choice. I'm sure people will try and sue but if John's company...
