I've started by testing the board the particular row of switches plugs into. No luck so far. What would be the next best place to look? Maybe look into seeing one of the connector's are bad?
Damn it, after playing all last night I awoke to find the same problem. None of what I did last night worked this morning. It may have just been a coincidence that it worked after I reseated the connectors. :( I'll have to dig into it when I get home from work.
FIXED! It's amazing how simple this fix was once I had the manual. :P
I just had to locate the connector with the name of the row printed on it. (in this case IA17P1) I unplugged it, then reconnected it. I fired up the machine and everything works again.
I've heard about the STNG opto thing, sounds like it has it much worse that R911!
Yeah I've cleaned them. Even when they are screwed down tight they seem to wiggle their way out of place.
It's definitely not intermittent anymore. I've done a little looking around the underside of the playfield today, but there's not much I can do until I have the manual. I may try to trace the switch wires to see where they go.
When I read SWITCH MATRIX, is that a single physical place...
I think I may have gotten the switch to behave a little better, I've added a washer to the shim that lines up the sensors board with the LED. For now the switch seems OK.
It's definitely not a cost thing. I'm just worried that if I replace the opto switch, it'll still be flaky.
I did a little poking around on it before work, even though the actual sling shots and kickers can be triggered via the self test menu, I realized that the switches to activate them are not registering when I trigger them by hand. I'll double check the fuses later, but I think I may need to wait...
I've been playing for most of the evening, but a strange problem has developed. I lose all bumpers and slingshots for extended periods of time. Nothing triggers them. Sometimes they stop working during play, then a few minutes later they start to work again. (I think even during the same ball)...
I have an incredibly flaky opto on my R911. It seems after every handful of games (maybe ten at most) I have to lift the playfield to adjust the sensor that triggers the top kicker. It's not a loose screw or anything, but I still have to readjust it every once in a while.
Has anybody ever...
Thanks for the instructional, Doug! I'd never have known to do that.
So, I tested the coil, I got voltage on one lug, but not the other.
Is this a repairable thing?
My top kicker has stopped kicking. I tried to trigger it via the self test, but it did nothing. I don't know if this is an accurate way to test it but I tried testing the continuity between both of the contacts, and got nothing. When I do similar tests on the other coils, I get a reading showing...
