    Evel Kneivel SS Issue

Is that pop bumper activating as soon as you turn the game on before the MPU completes its booting ? If so, the associated drive transistor on the Solenoid Driver board is shorted and needs to be replaced. The affected pop bumper coil (and the diode across the lugs) may need to be replaced as...

Bally / Midway 6803 Display Issue

Did you measure the high voltage to the displays when the issue is present, and after 15 minutes ? Unsure if it is a display, blanking or high voltage issue at this time...

Bally / Midway 6803 Display Issue

With the power off, have you tried unseating and reseating the cable from MPU to the display ? Just to see if this is a bad pin(s) issue... Cheers, - Sylvain.

Harlem - Outhole Kicker coil not firing

You can confirm this before replacing the pins by: - putting the machine into self-test, solenoids; - gently wiggling J4 on the MPU to see if you can cause the issue of one of more solenoids stopping being fired. Good luck ! - Sylvain.

Harlem - Outhole Kicker coil not firing

To me, this clearly points to intermittent/bad pins in the J4 connector on the MPU...

Harlem - Outhole Kicker coil not firing

flyer666 and Menace are correct. These are the checks to do on the Solenoid Driver board itself. Could be the drive transistor itself (grounding its tab bypasses the transistor so that test does not prove that the transistor is good), the CR4 diode in front of it, or the pre-driver transistor in...

    BOPP LED's and Sound

Here's a picture of such a 0.05 uF disc capacitor with one of its legs clipped (green part left) (from the web, from Clay's original Pinball Repair):

    BOPP LED's and Sound

In addition to target switch cleanliness (only clean with a business card, not a file) and gapping, check if there is a small 0.05 uF small disc capacitor across the targets lugs on those 5 & 6 targets under the playfield. Those old Bally games often have those caps to make the MPU detect a...

    BOPP won't boot

Any corrosion on that MPU near its bottom center (where the original rechargeable battery was/is) ? See here for a description of the number of flashes and what is wrong. http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Bally/Stern#Bally_.2F_Stern_MPU_Board_LED_Flash_Sequence On your board, since...

problem start up Gottlieb spirit of 76

Ouch... Contact cleaner is not recommended in any EM pinball machine, due to the risk of fire and future contact issues: http://www.pinrepair.com/em/index1.htm#lube With regards to the score motor running continuously, this is typical of those EM machines when it does not detect all reset...

    Gottleib EM startup problem

As recommended by Allan above, the Interlock Relays are critical in adjustments. They are usually located in the cabinet near the front. Make sure all contact stacks on all relays are tight before attempting any contact adjustment or cleaning with a flexstone. Also, I would recommend to never...

    Gold wings no sound!

One last check: DIP switches on the sound board: Make sure dip switches 3 & 4 are properly set on the sound board: - Position 1.... Not Used - Position 2.... Not Used - Position 3.... Off - Position 4.... On - Sylvain.

    Gold wings no sound!

You need a digital voltmeter or multimeter (DMM). Set it to Volts DC, and measure on the sound board, being careful not to short the probes to anywhere else from where you are measuring: - across C18: place the red probe on the + and black probe on the - of C18. Expect to read very close to...

    Gold wings no sound!

The 1st thing to do before replacing processor chips or capacitors on those sound boards is to confirm that the +5V power is proper on it. Have you had a chance to measure it ? (the power arrives from the small power supply board immediately to the right of the sound board) Cheers, - Sylvain.

    More sensitive tilt

In older Bally machines, two things were done to get the tilt better detected: - a small flexible wire was soldered directly to the rod of the tilt bob, instead of relying only on the pivot metal junction at the top; - a 0.05 uF disc capacitor was present to make the contact of the bob to the...

Williams 1970 3 Jokers - Need Tech Help Bad

Ouch, *many* things wrong with this machine... The cold storage and maybe dampness most probably contributed to this. The good news is that this is a single-player machine, which makes it a simpler machine to work on. This useful reference should help: http://www.pinrepair.com/em/index.htm...

    InterFlip Dragon Sound Issue

As provided on MAACA for the same post: For the 5000 - this is 1000 pulsed 5 times and the process repeated through the 5000 pts relay and impulses from the score motor, if you hold a 5000 scoring switch down, so it is normal that points would be scored in a 5x1000 and sound pulsed even if you...

    gottlieb system 3 flash lamps

I agree with Grauwulf's post above. I also received a PM from slither earlier tonight and it seems there may be more confusion. My response sent back as PM: I do not have a Freddy manual here, but have a System3 Premier Gladiator manual. The Gladiator manual shows R1= 0.33 ohms 5W resistor...

    gottlieb system 3 flash lamps

Like Menace said above. 0.33 ohms, 5W, and not 33 ohms... Easy to test on a DMM in continuity/beep test, such good resistor should read almost like a short. And opened (infinite resistance) if burned/opened. To prove that the resistor is indeed bad/opened, and if you have two alligator clips...
