What will be available for play at Antisocial?
The roll call continues today with...

Machine 60: Pirates Of The Caribbean (Stern)

The greatest pirate adventure of all-time is a pinball machine from Stern Pinball! Pirates of the Caribbean pinball features exciting elements from the first movie, as well as Pirates of the Caribbean/Dead Man’s Chest.

For those fans of the movies, Pirates of the Caribbean pinball machine adapts the characters and settings from the two Disney films perfectly into a pinball playfield. Two former Williams’ developers designed Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, game designer Dennis Nordman and rules designer/software engineer Dwight Sullivan.

The goal of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean pinball is to go on a pirate adventure to defeat Davy Jones, Jack’s nemesis in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean/Dead Man’s Chest.

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean offers the following features:

-A mechanical pirate ship that the player strikes with the pinball. With each hit, the ship lowers its sails and eventually sinks into the playfield, thus revealing a shot into the Kraken’s mouth. In this area, the player can sink the ship, destroy the Kraken, and fight Davy Jones.

-A mechanical treasures chest, the Dead Man’s Chest, through which the player can shoot the ball. When the player has the KEY, the chest opens. They can then spell H-E-A-R-T to begin HEART multi-ball.

-A contained spinning rubber disk where the player can capture up to three pinballs. The disk bounces them around in the contained area and holds them for an extended period of time till the player starts multi-ball. The disk sometimes represents Tortuga and other times Port Royal.

-A map compass comprised of playfield inserts that shows the player each feature they need to finish. Complete all eight features and play Four Winds Multi-ball.

Machine 61: Jurassic Park (Premium Edition)

Like the blockbuster movie, the Jurassic Park pinball experience generates heart pounding excitement as the player progresses through the game. As the game starts, the player is transported to Isla Nublar, an amusement park where escaped dinosaurs are running amok! The player’s mission is to rescue park staff and recapture dinosaurs from the chaotic environment unleashed by Dennis Nedry’s computer virus. All dinosaurs, however, are not created equal as players will battle Raptors and the mighty T. Rex! The game immerses players in the fun world of battling dinosaurs in an action-packed adventure filled with twists and turns.

Unfortunately, it seems we were severely misled in regards to the power available to the unit we are renting. While we have found a somewhat temporary solution, Antisocial's opening is now indefinitely postponed. We will have a clearer idea of timeline at the end of next week.

Just a quick update of the status of Antisocial. We will have to redo the entire electrical system for the unit we have rented. We have been told by the electrician that it will take around 3 weeks to get the permit, get the work done and inspection. After that we are looking at around a week to move all the machines in and the final touches. So, the good news is that we are still opening, but we are looking at about a month until that happens.
Yes, very anticlimactic...
To offset this disappointing news, here is something to get excited about...
John Wick LE @ Meeplemart this Sunday afternoon!!!

All electrical work has now been completed and some finishing "construction" touches will be completed tomorrow.
We plan on moving machines in over the next week and hope to open sometime between September 13-20.
This will not be a "grand opening" but rather a "soft opening" as there is still more work to be done in regards to décor etc. However, we want to get this going and Antisocial will be a work in progress for the first few months as we continue to improve it.
Stay tuned for more updates soon!

September 23 update;

I just thought I would post an update of what is happening and why this is taking sooooooooooooooo freaking long to get open. (I have actually been trying to open this for 3 years!)

A couple months ago, I was extremely close to opening (about a week away), when the "electrical issue" came up. Unfortunately, due to some extremely high quotes ($75,000+) and constantly changing information (I dealt with 7 different electricians all giving me conflicting information) I wasn't sure if I would ever be able to open Antisocial.

After weeks of dealing with electricians and trying to get the work done, I was getting nowhere, bleeding money and 2.5 hours away from giving up and dissolving the company. I had already notified the property manager, my lawyers and the landlord. In preparing for the closure, a lot of the work done (in order to open) had to be reversed (insurance cancellation, point of sale system returned, website development stopped, security system install halted etc). I also had to prepare for being locked out of the space by the landlord and my equipment seized due to "rent default", so everything that was moved in had to be removed. By sheer miracle about an hour before the "end" of Antisocial, I got a phone call from an electrical company that could do the job almost immediately and for a reasonable price. That phone called saved the day.

That work has been completed and I have been moving machines, finishing construction work and trying to reverse the "reverses". Unfortunately, from day one, this has essentially been a one man operation, with only minimal help available from Meeplemart staff due to the nature of the work and the days and hours that work can be done. (To compound issues, the location is in an extremely high density, high traffic area, which only gives us a 5-6 hour window, in the middle of the night, to unload machines and/ or do work). Further, over half the machines are located over 100km away, can not be loaded/ unloaded during rain and have to be packed and loaded by myself (solo). Loading and packing only 10 machines means lifting and moving 3000-4000+lbs up and down stairs, into a trailer or van and desperately making sure they do not get damaged, as each machine costs a small fortune.
I am exhausted. So much so, that I ended up falling down stairs while moving a pinball machine a few days ago as my body kind of just "collapsed". Although I suffered minor injuries, it could have been much, much worse...and I know what you are thinking; What about the pin!!!

So, where are we at!?

You know how the last day of school felt like a month long...yaaaa...

Everyday we are a step closer, but it is extremely challenging; physically, mentally and financially. About half the machines have been moved and about 1 day of construction remains. Ed from Meeplemart has really stepped up to help and we have been gaining momentum over the past week...and now 3 days of rain...

There is a chance I will open sometime this upcoming weekend (in a very "work in progress" state), but please understand that if I do not, it is not by choice, but rather sheer, physical, exhaustion. Nobody wants this open more than I do.

Steve

PS: If any of you are thinking about starting your own business, welcome to the non candy-coated, reality of doing it!
